He plays a homosexual in Mrs. Doubtfire and in Independence Day, so, is he gay in real too?

LOL,Harvey Fierstein having a wife! That's a good one. Fierstein is an amazing actor who being a gay man himself has constantly uses his writing/acting to protect gay rights and fight discrimination (Watch Torch Song Trilogy which he wrote and starred). He is an amazing writer and an amazing actor as well which is more important than his sexual orientation, together with Tommy Tune he holds the record of a person with more Tony Awards in different categories. He's always being up front about his sexual orientation and never hid it.

Kylethurna, you are a liar.
Wikipedia:
Fierstein occasionally contributes authors columns about gay issues. He was openly gay at a time when very few celebrities were, and never needed to come out, as it was simply known that he was gay. His careers as a stand-up comic and female impersonator are mostly behind him. Fierstein resides in Ridgefield, Connecticut. -

His character in Independence Day is gay?? I mean of course putting Harvey Fierstein in the role automatically puts the sexuality of the character into question but I don't think its ever actually confirmed whether or not the character is gay.

Your kidding, right? Try watching ID4 again. Listen to his character speak when hearing of the alien plot to destroy the earth."Oh my god, I've gotta call my hairdresser, my lawyer, forget my lawyer! If that isn't gay, I don't know what is.

Harvey Fierstein is quite openly gay. There are rumors about many actors and I do not arbitrarily believe them, but in this case there is no doubt. If you think his character in Mrs. Doubtfire is stereotypically gay, watch "Torch Song Trilogy".
