My first response would be I would just take my smart phone, but on second thought, I'd recommend taking some of the novels and/or short stories of the great
    ABC's
    of Science Fiction:
    Asimov, Bradbury and Clarke.

Thank you! That's where I'm at right now: I always bring a crossword book with me. It really helps. But I was thinking about some alternate ideas, lol.

My tech world stops with my laptop. I.e., I don't carry a smart phone, so that relegates me to hard-copy stuff only.
I was thinking some sort of omnibus book with short stories, jokes, puzzles, riddles, cartoons, math problems, famous quotes, trivia **** etc. would be a cool thing to have handy, lol.

Right! Just a mixed bag of stuff to keep it intellectually stimulating. There could be different volumes, but they'd all follow the same general pattern.

Yes, I love those, but for the most part I'm doing the standard crossword puzzles, such as the NY Times Sunday CW puzzles.

I'm not a phone person, but if I were that'd be an excellent idea.

I don't do my phone either. I rarely have it with me. I bring a paperback book with me for just such occasions. I much prefer real books to anything with a screen.
I carry a copy of Good Omens, a book I've read easily over a dozen times if not more, but it's very catchy. I'm on my 4th copy of the book because I've worn the others to pieces!

Yes. I thought the series was pretty good. Great casting. They changed it from the source material, which was sad, but that seems to happen quite often.
