I Met Bob Hope–Anyone Else?

My father-in-law worked in Epcot at Disney World a few years back. He was standing near the lagoon in a quiet spot waiting for the nightly fireworks/laser show when a man behind him said "Is this a good place to see the show?" and my pa-in-law said "Sure" and turned around and it was Bob Hope. He stood and talked with him for half an hour or so. Says he was completely a nice guy.

I met him many times, as I grew up in Palm Desert/Indian Wells. He was nice fellahe used to like to be chauffered to the Palm Springs Airport late at night, I don't know why, but his valet said he liked it thereand once I saw him vomit in the bushes there. Strange, I know. But for the most part he was always humming a tune, kind of happy go lucky even in the very late years when he was confined to a wheel chair. I met Mr. Hope in 1967 at Cam Rahn Bay during his Christmas Tour. I was lucky enough to be chosen (by draw) to present our Unit Air Force patch and a certificate signed by all the guys in the unit. It was a B57 group of the 13TH AF 8th & 13th Bomb Units of the "BLMF" in Viet Nam. We were stationed in Phan Rang RVN on TDY from the home base in the PI (You PI guys remember old Smiley). I also saw him as an audience member 1968.

I was MC-ing the Laugh Factory in Hollywood in 1998 or 99 and Bob Hope came in. I was introduced to him by the club's owner and shook his hand. He was very old and a little out of it but for me it was exciting because he was show biz history personified. He sat in the front row, which was a little distracting and had an earpiece laying on the table which was audible from a distance. He and his male nurse left before the show ended and I followed them out. They were waiting for his car to pick him up on Sunset Blvd. and he was getting a little impatient..
BH: "Where's the car?"
Nurse: "IT'S COMING!"
BH: "Why's there so much traffic?"
Nurse: "IT'S SUNSET BLVD!"
Then the nurse started singing a song (I'm Old Fashioned) to calm him and Hope started singing along. It was kind of sad as he was so vital and talented in his prime but he WAS 95 or 96. -

I know this is a 2 year old thread, but Bob Hope was the speaker at my college graduation. I graduated from St. Louis University in 1979his daughter Linda went there in the 60s. He was sitting up on the stage as we walked across to get our diplomas. I waved to him and he waved back.
To be perfectly honest, he didn't look so good. He must have been having some health issues at the time, because I saw something he did a few years later on TV and he looked a lot better. -

I used to live in Palm Springs when I was a baby, that was back in 1981
One day, my parents and I were out on a walk by a golf course. Bob came up to me in my stroller and just started talking to me and pushed me around in my stroller for a few minutes. It was really cool but too bad I can't remember that. Darn it

I never met Hope, but my Dad saw (but didnt meet) Hope several times, when my Dad was working as a taxi/town car/limo driver in Orlando. He said that everyone down where he worked had heard the story of how one of their fellow drivers had chauffeured Hope around one night. Once the chauffer drove Hope to a good restaurant, Hope invited the driver in and treated him to a nice meal at his table. I think this shows how down to earth he was and what a nice guy he could be. (On the other hand, all the drivers would talk about how Dick Gephardt would never tip; theyd call him Gyp-hardt)

i meet bob hope at a golf tourment in palm springs back in 95. got his autograph and meet him.it wasent his tourment it was a diffrent one he showed up unexpecdetlly. when he was siging autographs some guy brought baseballs i think causde he thought there were other sports players besides golfers. but when he found out there wrent he was giving out the balls to people who wanted mister hopes autographs but did not have paper. so mister signs about 4 baseballs n finally remarks what the hells with all thesse baseballs isent this a golf course? everybody was laughing mister hope was just not stop funny. unreplaceble entertainer there wont ever be another bob hope. since today would have been his 103 b day i thought i post something about him. its kinda hard to beleave he did not live to see 103. bob hopes rules.

I met Bob Hope in May of 1956, when he was a first class passenger on the Queen Mary going from New York to Southampton. I was with my parents in second class, I heard that he was on the boat and I went over to the first class section to see him. I was 12, he was very nice to me.

I met Bob Hope in a book store in about 1987. He was siging one of his books on golf. I took pictures of him and shook his hand. I'm so glad I had the chance to meet him. I still have his autographed book. What an impressive life he had, he had entertained so many people!
