I read an interview in a magazine she gave and she said that when she divorced Steven Spielberg no one wanted to know her. It's a shame she is a good actress, and was so beautiful in Carrie. I think her eyes are really striking. You're right though, just because you don't do big budget movies and aren't very famous, doesn't mean you have a poor career or anything. If you ask me all people should avoid fame!

      have you seen bossa nova?
that's a great film and evidence that she's still doing really good things.

If it's true about no one wanting to know her after Spielberg, then that is just horrible. She's a fabulous talent, and I adore her. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves.

I thought Amy Irving was truly wonderul in "Crossing Delancey" and should have at l;east been nominated for an Academy Award. It was a warm, sensitive and understated performance. Magical!

She is far from having an unsuccessful career, not only has she done a number of film that were successful back in the day. She always remained loyal to the theatre even after she made a name for herself in DePalma's/Streisand's work. She won an Obie award i believe (the off-Broadway award?) and praised time and time again every time she steps on the stage. She was even an icon for her beauty and intelligence in the 80's I guess the $100 million didn't hurt either 😄

Because Spielberg is a CREEP! His present wife is nothing less.

She's always been more interested in being an ACTRESS rather than a STAR. That's just her. I do think she had/has star quality but it's just not something she's interested in. She's doing pretty well as a character actress now in her 50s.

Why would you assume she didn't get exactly what she wanted? Not everyone wants to work themselves into an early grave for your satisfaction.

I don't think it's a what happened moment, she's talented and worked pretty steadily in the 80s and 90s. I was more surprised that she didn't do a lot in the 70s only three films two of which are Carrie (her theatrical debut) and The Fury, two of my favorite guilty pleasures! with her stunningly good looks you'd think she would have been working more during that decade.
