I just found out about his passing just now, I've just finished watching The Player(he plays the studio boss) and I was very suprised. Looking at his resume he had been very busy up untill his death with one title only being released comparitevly recently. Also I'd point out that his height wouldn't have had much relevance to suffering a heart attack, coronary disease is the biggest killer of men in there fifties, well in the UK at least, I'm sure it's a similiar story in America.

Crazy how we're all in the same boat. I just watched Cherry 2000 on Encore this morning (never thought I'd ever find Melanie Griffith attractive, but d*mn!) and had the urge to IMDb it. I was on Tim Thomerson's page when I saw the "Was a Vietnam war buddy of the late actor Brion James" and I was thinking "what do you mean late?" 1999!? I was still in high school! I'm glad I'm not the only one who missed the fanfare.
It sucks, but it looks like he's had well enough of a Tupac career since:16d0 "Phoenix Point in 2005?" I remember it was only a few years or so ago when I caught "Galactica 1980" on Sci-Fi (hyping the new series) and was like "Hey! It's Brion James!"
      RIP, Brion
I don't know what Post-Apocalyptic sci-fi movies are gonna do with you.

Wow. I didn't know either. Another 48 Hours is coming on soon and I was just going to catch up on it and BAM. He's dead.
It also just dawned on me that he was the guard in KISS Meets The Phantom.
        Weird.

Wow, just wow.. I had no idea like pretty much everyone else in this thread.
I always thought of Brion when I thought of a "bad guy"
He had the look, the intensity, the size.. a perfect combination..
            So sad

A staple in many movies of my childhood, sad to see he passed away over 10 years ago.

Same here, just found out about it now, watched the scene with him in BladeRunner when they are running the test and one guy in the comments said he passed away.
RIP. Sad to hear. Great actor!

Sad that he passed away. Reading the IMDB quotes from him it seems like he pissed off some of the Hollywood powers and suffered for it in his career

There's a very good 1995 interview with Brion James from Psychotronic Video.com in which he discusses his childhood growing up with movies, early acting days, playing villains, his long-term alcohol and drug use, and eventual sobriety unfortunately too late for his body:

Guilty. Watched Steel Dawn this morning (don't judge me!!! LMAO) and was wondering what Brion had done lately only to discover what everyone else in here apparently found out the same way I just did. I hate to stereotype actors that I really like, but Brion will always be Leon from Blade Runner. The intensity that he brought to that role carried through every performance he did thereafter whether it be something a bit more comical such at The Fifth Element or as Max Jenke in The Horror Show. I'm saddened that I didn't know sooner because he truly was one of my favorites. I'm gladdened to see that all you guys felt the same way that I do about him. It's a bit late but rest in peace Leon

Same as everyone else, I'm surprised and saddened to find he had passed away.
Just watched his episode of The Sentinel tonight. He was typically great as a psycho.
But, from all his roles, my favourite is his second episode of Sledge Hammer. So funny, so different to how we usually see him. It really stuck in my mind.
