I'm not a fan of the Second Amendment. It ensures gun rights merely for "a well regulated militia," which it deems "necessary to the security of a free state." Whereas I favor individual gun rights as a measure of self-protection and, as a side effect, as a check against government tyranny.

That's not true, that's a justification clause, the 2nd Amendment specifically says the right of the people, it doesn't the right of the militia, it says the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

In the 18th century, the phrase bear arms meant in the context of military or militia duty to carry arms with formal service under command. To bear arms meant to serve as part of a military force.

You’re ignoring the blatant fact it says well-regulated militia front and center. Neither mental gymnastics nor your tenuous grasp of grammar can dispute what it is referring to: the phrase “right of the people” is clearly referring to the opening clause “a well regulated militia” which is the subject of the whole amendment. It is not surprising republicans don’t understand this since they can barely even read. Not every dissenting opinion you see is an AI conspiracy, it’s just historical fact.
