Of what I have seen, Quick Change holds his best performance. It`s comic brilliance.

I agree. Quaid was hysterical in Quick Change. Great movie, by the way

Well, he was wonderful in The Last Detail, for which he was nominated for an oscar, but in my opinion, his best performance was in Independence Day. He brought his usual comic flair to his role in that film, but more than that, he fleshed out a character that the audience really could sympathize and side with. He turned the "comical alien obsessed nut" sterotype into a misunderstood soul searching for answers, a man who had suffered the horrible reprecussions for having even admitted he was abducted, and at the same time having to watch his kids suffer as his life continues its downward spiral. It was a beautiful performance, and IMO, he should have gotten a second oscar nom for it.

Yeah my favorite scene with him is when he is dumping the sewage from his moterhome and shouts "Merry Christmas! Sh*tter was full!"

Cousin Eddie is the classic, "The Last Detail" is the award buzz, and I like them both.
Two movies soon opening here in Norway with him: "The Ice Harvest" and "Brokeback Mountain", and I look forward to see him on the screen again.

I liked him as Cousin Eddie in Vegas Vacation the best. The way he goes strolling around the casino with a yard margarita perpetually in his hand, or when he gets out the box of snakes for his kids and says, "let me go fetch the babysitter," damn that always cracks me up. This role isn't just a comedy character, it's damn good acting, as far as I'm concerned. The scene where he & Chevy Chase are digging up the yard looking for the cans of money he buried the whole deal with aquiring his property from the goverment etc. That is totally believable, even though it's funny. I really know people like that from Nevada.

i like his character in the "Vacation" movies.
our boy has done come home,
from the land hes been walkin on,
we had to get substitutes while he was gone,
but they didn't do nothing but wrong,
                                          son, it's been too long,
thats why i got hooked on this funky lil blues song.
                                          soldiers that has fallen,
who can still hear their familys callin,
                                          they pray to lord above,
send us less evil and misery, and more good fortune n love,
