I thought she was a producer since s2?
Isnt this show based off Ro's own life and her comedy routines?
I think that is why the show did so well & def resonates 2day with the recession.
Also, you sig is from what song/poem/movie? Who said it?

Just because she was a producer, or even an executive producer doesn't mean that she could do whatever she wanted. She developed the show with Carsey/Warner Productions & ABC but I'm sure that they contract specified that THEY owned the show and the characters, not her. Executive Producer can mean a lot of things. Often on sequels, remakes and later seasons of TV shows you see "Executive Producer" credits for people who are not longer involved in the show. They just get that credit & a check out of contract obligations. In reality Rosanne did call the shots on the show (and even did some silly vanity type of things) but she had to fight tooth and nail for that kind of control.

If that would have happened I think the show would have been cancelled. Roseanne and John Goodman had great on screen chemistry that I think without her the show would have failed.

. . . John AND Laurie were both approached with the "An Officer and a Gentleman" ep (the one Rosie barely appeared in), and NO ONE was told until after, that the ep was to be a possible example of the show WITHOUT Roseanne, much like VALERIE became VALERIE'S FAMILY and later THE HOGAN FAMILY.
          brainlock
What happened in ep "Office & Gentleman" ?
Y would they do the show w/o R?
t wouldnt work as its called ROSEANNE & her jokes/ 1 liners/ antics is y we all loved the show.
Even if they renamed the show, what would it be? The Conners? But Jackie isnt a Conner, she is a Harris.

The show is the one where Roseanne's dad gets hurt and she goes to help out with him and her mother while Jackie stays behind and takes care of the kids and Dan. Rosie appears at the very beginning of the episode and then shows up at the very end (with her new haircut).
Supposedly they wanted to kick her off the show because Roseanne was very hard to work with. On a good day she was supposed to be one of the best professionals in Hollywood - on a bad day she could make the work atmosphere a nightmare (and I'm assuming at that time there were more bad days than good, since she was involved with Tom Arnold). She also stuck to her guns and rarely backed down from what she wanted and the producers didn't like being told what to do.
I'm guessing if they renamed the show, it would've gone back to the original title of "LIFE AND STUFF", but that's just an assumption on my part.

The ratings would have dropped and the last season Roseanne was on would have been the last season of the entire show. Pssshhht tryin to kick Roseanne off..I think not.

Yes, they are still dear friends. She has remained close to John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf even though they don't see each other often. I've seen her post on her site in recent years about how much she adores both of them.

Her book "My Lives" tells you what it was like for her making 'Roseanne'. It's a funny, great read.

I heard John Goodman couldn't stand her but he was so proud of be part of a hit show that he decided to stay and deal with it.

The last few posters are beep idiots it's a known fact that the whole main cast got along well. Nobody hated anybody other than the very first DJ who only appeared in one episode, Sal Barone didn't get along with Sara Gilbert

Benji The Dog: Not true - You are thinking of Brett Butler I bet. She had the nasty reputation for treating her supporting cast on "Grace Under Fire" like crap, even the kids. But Roseanne was alway good to hers. Roseanne did have a reputation for butting heads with the producers and writers of the show, that I remember but not the cast.

Actually, Benji The Dog is quite correct. Roseanne did develop a terrible reputation during the course of that show. She and Tom Arnold were hated by a lot of the people on that show, including some of the cast members. They couldn't keep writers because Roseanne and Tom were acting like Gods behind the scenes.
Sara Gilbert tells the story of Roseanne coming up to her one day during rehearsals and telling her that if she didn't toe the line, she would fire her. According to Sara, she told Roseanne to go away because she, Roseanne, didn't have the authority to fire her or anyone else on the show.
A few cast members have talked about that time. They all say the same thingonce she married Tom Arnold, she changed for the worst. She gave Tom too much power over her and the show. Tom started isolating her from the rest of the people on the show, cast and crew alike. Her whole personality changed and what was once a tight knit group of people acting on a great show became an "us against Tom and Roseanne" mentality.
So, her bad reputation and the terrible way she treated the cast and crew of Roseanne after she married Tom is quite true. Producers, directors, actors, etc all say the same thing. She became an unbearable bitch to work with.
What you call discovery, I call the rape of the natural world.

Very interesting story and Thank you! They always seem so "close" and chummy when you see them together but I guess that's publicity and acting for you. I am sure I heard that Roseanne and Laurie Metcalf were like "sisters" once according to Metcalf but who knows if its really true. Thanks again.
