    Grace Kelly
    Tippi Hedren
    Kim Novak
    Eva Marie Saint
    Janet Leigh
I wonder who Saint had in mind as the sixth? Ingrid Bergman? (not really considered the "cool blonde" Hitch went for). Doris Day (no, only one movie and I'm sure Day was friendly and professional and kept her distance), surely not Joan Fontaine?
Am I missing someone very obvious?
PS: Happy Birthday to a wonderful actress!

Just watched Robert Osborne's comments after a showing of NbyNW. He mentions Hitch had used blondes for his leading ladies going back to the 1930's and mentions an actress not listed (yet) on this thread but I don't recall it!

Carole Lombard the original cool blonde ,Hitchcock's comedy Mr and Mrs Smith 1941..who Hitch loved ,had written a movie "The Knife" for her but shelved it forever after she died in a plane crash

I agree, Ingrid Bergman. They made 3 films together,
                    Spellbound
                    ,
                    Notorious
                    and
                    Under Capricorn
. They remained life long friends and she attended his funeral. I recommend Patrick McGilligan's excellent biography
Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Light
                    to all Hitchcock fans.
"Everyone is ignorant, only on different subjects". Will Rogers (1879-1935)

I'm pretty sure it's Madeleine Carroll, often considered the first Hitchcock "Blonde", but of course there is also Anny Ondra 🙂
                      that'll be the day

                        You are well informed.
Here is the beautiful and heroic Madeleine Carroll receiving her Medal of Freedom from the US Army for her service during World War 2:

In my personal opinion Hitchkock never made a better film than the one that starred Madeleine Carroll, "The 39 Steps"(1935).
Anny Ondra, the star of Hitchkock's "Blackmail"(1929) chose exceedingly well when she married boxer Max Schmeling, a hero of the NAZIs who was nevertheless admired and respected by everyone who knew him. Max made his fortune after the war as head of Coca Cola in Germany.
