Just watched Robert Osborne's comments after a showing of NbyNW. He mentions Hitch had used blondes for his leading ladies going back to the 1930's and mentions an actress not listed (yet) on this thread but I don't recall it!

I agree, Ingrid Bergman. They made 3 films together,
Spellbound
,
Notorious
and
Under Capricorn
. They remained life long friends and she attended his funeral. I recommend Patrick McGilligan's excellent biography

In my personal opinion Hitchkock never made a better film than the one that starred Madeleine Carroll, "The 39 Steps"(1935).
Anny Ondra, the star of Hitchkock's "Blackmail"(1929) chose exceedingly well when she married boxer Max Schmeling, a hero of the NAZIs who was nevertheless admired and respected by everyone who knew him. Max made his fortune after the war as head of Coca Cola in Germany.
