Being someone suffering from OCD, I think 'Monk' is truly hilarious. I'm only fourteen, and yet, I can relate to most everything his symptoms personify. This show makes me giggle unendingly at how he personifies the disorder.

I think in a genre, Monk would be classified somewhere between a drama and a comedy. You can always disagree with its classification to a certain degree, and I'm sure you're right. But I personally feel that Monk doesn't reinforce mean-spirited humour towards those that suffer from an obsessive-compulsive disorder. I think bossanovachin's post sums this up in the best way: It infact, indirectly gains awareness about the disease and how dracastically it can change one's life; and the laughter saves you from isolation, and it makes it easier to let go.

it kind of is a comedy.. and it was nominated last year for an Emmy under "comedy" too. i think it kind of falls under "comedy/mystery"? its not really a drama but it does have drama some of the time.

i'm trying really hard to like ted levine as i first saw him in silence of the lambs as the serial killer and that image seems quite hard to shake off

I agree. Monk is a great and funny show. I love how it focuses on Monk's brilliance because of his OCD, rather than his weirdness because of his OCD. But, I do agree. Monk gets pretty deep sometimes, and I like that. I enjoy laughing my head off, but I like to see that it's very grounded and senseable, too. Monk is a fantastic show.

I know what your saying about the show. Yes it has its moments where it's not just funny, it's rreealllyyy funny, but it's not a comedy. Here's the thing about the word comedy that most people don't know. Comedy doesn't always necessarily denote something being humorous. Sounds weird, but its true. I was going to school in Northern California, and was minoring in Theatre Arts. Now unfortunately I wasnt able to stay at that school, 😞 ; But I did learn a lot while I was there. Now I dont remember exactly what my professor said but I know it went something like a work that can make you think, makes you look ab68t things with a different perspective, something like that. Now here we were in a class filled with theatre major's, and minors, and we didn't know what she was talking about, but she explained it. Gave us some examples.
For example, when you think about it, even if people havent read Dantes Divine Comedy most people know enough to know that there is nothing funny about those books. And though the author was probably trying to be ironic, I dont think that was the only reason he used the word comedy.
Also, I have a feeling that a lot of people watch this show at think, well its funny, but can you really say its a comedy? And think about it, how often does that happen, and not just with this show? Do you know how many times Ive watched movies and been like, theres nothing funny about this! This movies terrible! Well this show isnt terrible, if anything it's totally awesome, but I think you get my point.
And I just looked up the word Comedy at answer.com, and I think they give a better definition than me. As a matter of fact there first definition makes me think of the show big time:
                      comedy
                      n., pl. -dies.
                      1.
                      a. A dramatic work that is light and often humorous or satirical in tone and that usually contains a happy resolution of the thematic conflict.
                      b. The genre made up of such works.
                      2. A literary or cinematic work of a comic nature or that uses the themes or methods of comedy.
                      3. Popular entertainment composed of jokes, satire, or humorous performance.
                      4. The art of composing or performing comedy.
                      5. A humorous element of life or literature: the human comedy of political campaigns.
                      6. A humorous occurrence.

This guy is a goof that can't keep his mouth shut about politics like Barbara
Streisand, Julia Roberts and the like. He should concentrate more on acting because he obviously needs the practice. When will these Hollywood goofs realize that when they open their big mouths on politics that they end up inserting their foots in them. Ask the idiotic Dixie Chicks how they feel!

You're kidding, right? This show has more comedy than drama. And it was always like that. Did you think you were supposed to cry in the airplane episode? This should be titled a comedy/mystery/drama, with about 70% comedy, 10% mystery, and 20% drama. And newsflash, the whole formula of the show is the only thing that seperates it from Frasier.

I remember the episode where he went to New York, and I got a few laughs, especially from this quote from Monk:
                                "YOU!! You're the urinator!"

Maybe they feel fine but the damage has already been done. They can't fill stadiums anymore so they have concerts in smaller venues since their lapse in judgement. If they don't want to live in the best country in the world, then I say to them, "Don't let the door hit you idiots in the ass on the way out!"

saids the idiot that believes that just because a person hates the president and how the government is being run makes them unamerican and since they have to balls to say they do make them unamerican. What makes a person unamerican is sitting by and listening to any president even if you don't agree with them

First of all, what makes an idiot is one that does not know how to spell and does not know when to add punctuation correctly. Secondly, it is fine to disagree and voice opinion, but not smart to do it in front of thousands of people that you don't even know. That my friend, is stupid!

actually when a idiot isn't really an idiot when he doesn't feel like correcting his mistakes just because some moron wants to act like just because someone makes a mistake that makes them dumb and that is not stupid if the people stop liking them because of their opinion than they never really were true fans in the 1st place so F them.
