Resembles their early 30's. Unless they have had surgery. He lost his hair. That can make someone look drastically different.

Well, it IS called aging. You honestly expect someone in their 80's to resemble themselves from their 30's? Also, bear in mind that he was playing Winston Churchill in the Tarantino film - he had to be made up to resemble him or people would have called foul. I agree, he's changed a lot, but I can still see the old self in his eyes and face. I think its just because he was such a good looking man that people are disappointed he got old, but hey, it happens!

Yes, indeed, it is called aging! (Yes I am 85, and recently showed friends of mine my old navy pic (age 18) and their remarks dropped my ego to ground zero!) "That can't be you!" "No way is that you!" etc. etc.") However, I was proud that at one time in my life I was considered a hunk (and too modest to tell you what they thought of my pic!) But he was a hunk and surprised he was an Aussie! Isn't odd, that so many of the present day hunks are also Aussies? Is it the water? (ha).

Well good for you psheck for being 85 and using a computer, and thank you for your service sir!
But my dad is getting up there and you can look at his wedding picture from 50yrs ago and still see a strong resemblence.
Rod Taylor I believe was/is a heavy drinker and smoker.
A lot of it has do with hereditary, lifestyle, sun exposure, etc.

at first, I confused your post in that I thought you were his son and referring to his wedding pic of 50 years ago: but then third person comment below set me straight! (Ah, it's hell to get old (as the saying goes), but so true, especially for those in the limelight when they were young (Sunset Blvd?) take care.

Yes, my dad still looked like his young self up until his passing at 87. He did not smoke and drank very little. He had a fantastic marriage and family and loved his life. Had a very active job and stayed active right to the end.
I'm sure genes played a big role since both parents lived to old age. However, the age range at death of his five siblings was 49 to 91 years old.
Radio's Dr. Dean Edell once read the results of a study that basically found that smoking was the biggest factor. The effects of even diet, exercise, alcohol, etc. could not be shown to correlate with longevity.
But you still love the person inside, no matter what they look like.

I think everyone gets that, but the OP has a point. Most older people I know resemble their younger selves. It's not usually too hard to see how age has transformed them over the years. Taylor on the other hand is almost unrecognizable of his former self. One really has to examine a pic of his younger self and a pic of his older self to find traces of resemblance (or at least I did).

I do understand what you mean, and that it's not ignorant or being insulting - like I could relate Paul Newman in his 80's to the younger Paul, Bob Hope, ditto with Chuck Heston, etc. Leonard Nimoy is another example. The face is a tad more weathered but you can still see it's the same guy, then some other people age to looking quite drastically different. I do hope I live to be in my eighties (395b4 now).

He's 82 give him a break! You and I will probably look worse
I think most people of that age, once they put on a baseball cap or something on their head, they soon pretty much look like their old selves (best example of this Jack Klugman, who alternates between a cap and the best toupee ever made)
Also, Rod's occasional co-star Ernest Borgnine at 95, he looks and acts 20 years younger (the only problem he has is with his hearing)
Glad they're all still around, no matter what they look like they were and still are, great.

When I had seen Rod Taylor fairly recently in a "Birds" documentary, I couldn't get over the change. He had gained weight and lost hair, but he still seemed to have a charming personable air which added to his attractiveness.
The majority of people cannot look the same way they did 50 years later and sometimes plastic surgery makes it worse!

I understand completely what you mean. I watched I.B. by Quentin and never watched the credits and never knew it was him till now. I had a crush on Rod Taylor when I was a teenager after watching The Time Machine and I wasn't even born when that movie came out. lol I saw it on cable years later. I adored him in The Glass Bottom Boat and The Birds. I wanted to jerk Melanie Daniels bald headed. lol
I don't know him personally to say this or that is what caused the major change so I'll just assume it's genes. Some people age gracefully and others change dramatically. Regardless, he is still a nice looking man and still has that charisma in his acting that drew me to him. Still love ya Mr. Taylor!

Not sure why anybody would expect Rod Taylor to age well. He starred in one of my all time favorite Twilight Zone episodes,
And When the Sky Was Opened
. He was only in his late 20s then, but easily looked like a man pushing 40.
We all age, and he's now an elderly man. However considering that he's been looking older than his age for a very long time, it comes as no surprise that he looks unrecognizable to some.

H111ce was made up to look like Churchill ( Rod is older than Winston was during World War II). He has aged and his hair has thinned but there is a recent video of Taylor on Youtube talking about working with Quentin Tarentino. He is still recognisable as Rod Taylor. Same cheeky smile.
