I think most people of that age, once they put on a baseball cap or something on their head, they soon pretty much look like their old selves (best example of this Jack Klugman, who alternates between a cap and the best toupee ever made)
Also, Rod's occasional co-star Ernest Borgnine at 95, he looks and acts 20 years younger (the only problem he has is with his hearing)
Glad they're all still around, no matter what they look like they were and still are, great. -

When I had seen Rod Taylor fairly recently in a "Birds" documentary, I couldn't get over the change. He had gained weight and lost hair, but he still seemed to have a charming personable air which added to his attractiveness.
The majority of people cannot look the same way they did 50 years later and sometimes plastic surgery makes it worse! -

I understand completely what you mean. I watched I.B. by Quentin and never watched the credits and never knew it was him till now. I had a crush on Rod Taylor when I was a teenager after watching The Time Machine and I wasn't even born when that movie came out. lol I saw it on cable years later. I adored him in The Glass Bottom Boat and The Birds. I wanted to jerk Melanie Daniels bald headed. lol
I don't know him personally to say this or that is what caused the major change so I'll just assume it's genes. Some people age gracefully and others change dramatically. Regardless, he is still a nice looking man and still has that charisma in his acting that drew me to him. Still love ya Mr. Taylor! -

Not sure why anybody would expect Rod Taylor to age well. He starred in one of my all time favorite Twilight Zone episodes,

. He was only in his late 20s then, but easily looked like a man pushing 40.
We all age, and he's now an elderly man. However considering that he's been looking older than his age for a very long time, it comes as no surprise that he looks unrecognizable to some. -

H111ce was made up to look like Churchill ( Rod is older than Winston was during World War II). He has aged and his hair has thinned but there is a recent video of Taylor on Youtube talking about working with Quentin Tarentino. He is still recognisable as Rod Taylor. Same cheeky smile.

I looked at his pictures. It depends on the picture. I have seen many people that age gracefully, and some that look drastically different. And it doesn't always have anything more to do with the fact that people get old, and we live in a culture that is youth obsessed. When people worked hard outdoors, they NEVER looked like themselves in their 20's or 30's. People live longer thanks to modern medicine. But everyone reaches a point when they start looking REALLY old, and for some people that happens in their 60's, or 70's, or 80's. Considering most people are dead by the time they hit their 80's, kudos to Rod Taylor. Smoking will age people, yes, but it WON'T make you look like an older DIFFERENT person. It doesn't change the shape of your nose, bone structure, etc. Two things that continue to grow throughout your life is your nose and ears. For some people this will make greater changes than others. GENETICS. Get used to it. Some folks look incredible for their ages (see Chad Everett, Sean Connery who looked sexier in their 60's than they did in their 20's in my opinion, but we all know that by the time they hit 70's, they will have lost that sexy glow. Paul Hogan, for example, when he did Crocodile Dundee was past his mid forties when it came out. He starts looking quite different within the next 10- 15 years and now in his mid 70's, will probably look a lot like Rod Taylor as far as recognizable if he lives for yet another 10 years). I could see Rod Taylor's face in his photos, but I think we all hold an image of movie stars in our heads from movies we enjoyed them in in their youth, and when we stop seeing them as they age along the way, it's a shock to see them when they are 50+ years older than the last time we saw them. But reallyhe is simply an old man. Aging isn't a science. Everyone ages differently. Not everyone can age like Lena Horne. If we used her as an example, we ALL fall way short and should conclude we are all doing something wrong if we have wrinkles before hitting age 60 (check out images of Lena Horne up until she died and you'll see why peopb68le called her ageless. People can take the best care of themselves their whole life and never look as good as she did at 92 years old when she died).
