It's a question of makeup. I've seen shots of Madonna and others with and w/o makeup and it's like looking at two different persons (try Googling "stars without makeup"). Rachel Ward with makeup still looks ok, though doesn't come up to the ankles of her Meggie incarnation. But then, who does?

everybody looks better with make up, but the dress she wore to mother of all balls was not for her. That dress could have been worn well by someone with a little better body, her boobs were practically on the floor! But she has never really had the world' s best fashion sensejust my opinion.

You're ungenerous, but it does look to me like she has made choices such that spending hours on her appearance is not a priority. Between that and other matters, such as keeping a stable family, or seeking justice for the Aborigines, she has priorities that are less titillating to her fans.

I wouldn't be surprised if she, like a lot of people in the biz, shaved a few years off her age early on in her career. Like maye she passed for 20 when she was 25. Happens all the time
Anyway, I was born in 1957. I've seen a number of classmates at a 30 year reunion recently and a lot of them look Ol-l-l-l-l-ld. I don't look that old nor does my wife some of us age better than others. -

It genetic, look at Farrah Fawcett's parents, very normal looking and quite wrinkled but cute. Farrah is fighting bad genesSMOKING PLAYS A HUGE ROLE in aging. People who smoke for years often look 10 years older when they get to their 40's!

I agree; she looks like she partied HARD! Probably didn't take care of her skin when she was younger and then smoked and drank a lot and maybe spent a lot of time in the Sun. My mother is 61 and looks younger than Rachel Ward. Maybe genetics have played some part, but I think too many late nights for too long did the main job of contributing to why she has aged so poorly.
Too bad. She could have aged gracefully. -

You all are discussing how old she is, please leave her alone shes still gorgeous and we all are gonna be old some day is just a question of time and she looks better than some young actress that if you see without make up would look horroble. She didnt lost her light just got more experience.

You gotta be kidding. We are NOT discussing how old she is but how old she LOOKS and you don't get to looking like she does without doing something to prematurely age yourself. Like smoking, drinking, partying, baking out in the Sun and perhaps some Bolivian Marching Powder thrown in the mix.
NOTES: The word is "horrible", not "horroble".
This sentence makes no sense: "She didn't lost her light just got more experience". Huh? Do you mean she didn't LOSE her light?
She may be a wonderful person; to that end I have no idea. But for someone not yet 50 she looks OLD and that's that. -

She does not look bad, however she does look older then someone born in 1957.
She may have taken a "few years off" when she was starting out; saying she was younger then she actually was. That is nothing unusual for an actress to do
