He was amazing in Layer Cake. His performance in that film made him one of my favorite actors.

THANK YOU! I am so tired of people using this forum as a way to simply bash Gambon. I mean, it's fine that you think Richard Harris was a better Dumbledore, that's great, but I'm so sick of all these "HE SUX AS DUMBLEDORE!!!1" posts.
And like you said, he's done WAY more than Harry Potter. For instance, his Albert Spica in The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover is one of the best movie villains ever (my signature is actually from that movieheh). And he was great in Sleepy Hollow.

I agree with fetusboy. He's great at playing villains. Has anyone seen "Toys"? One of my personal faves.

                Yeah, I definitely agree.
He was absolutely wonderful in Sleepy Hollow.
One of my favorite movies, actually, and he's a big part of it.
That's the trouble with doing extremely popular movies like Harry Potter, especially coming into them after replacing a man who was so well liked.
It's a tough thing to do, and I, for one, applaud him for being brave enough to do so.
Richard Harris' portrayal of Dumbledore was a hard act to follow, but he did his best, and I think it was awesome.

Apparently, when you do a Harry Potter film, you're marked forever. Baltus Van Tassel? Oseary Drakoulias? William McCordle? Albert Spica? Who the hell are these guys?
It happened with some other actors too. Zorg, Stansfield? Nope, Sirius Black. Alexandar Dane, Metatron? Nope, Severus Snape. Phil? Nope, Peter Pettigrew.
                  It's awful.
Anyway, I think Gambon is a great actor. Very underrated.
You said it yourself, man, nobody f *cks with the Jesus!

Yeah I agree It is too bad that actors are marked for being in the Harry Potter films. Although I don't think he could ever beat the wonderful Richard Harris, I do like him as an actor and think he is very talented. Unfortunately I'm not all that familiar with his work but I definitely want to be.
Yeah unfortunately people like Alan Rickman (haha Metatron <3) as well, another extremely talented actor, is simply known as Snape, though he too has done so much more. And hey, who knew he could sing?! And Timothy Spall and Helena Bonham Carter as well (both from HP). I think big movies like that (Sweeney Todd, btw) will help people realize that these actors are not just the witches and wizards they play.
Unfortunately this will probably go on until Deathly Hallows comes out (so you guys better be prepared!).
But anyway, as I said above, I'm not too familiar with his works I just watched Sleepy Hollow tonight (v. good). Any other suggestions/recommendations?
For what do we live but to make sport of our neighbours and laugh at them in our turn?

..while his performance in harry potter stinks.
hes too aggressive & his accent goes strange.
The films dont do the books justice but why doesnt somebody tell him this?!
If they're making a film they might aswell get it right.

It's his most current role. Of course it is going to be the most current topic. When the HP movies are done and he's moved on to something else, I bet that's what will be talked about. Relax.

I was in London a few years back and was at the Theater to see a play. I was there very early so I was sitting around in the lobby. Michael Gambon walked in very casually, looking the way he always looks. I spotted him right away. Since I am a Yank, his name totally escaped me (dunno why I said that, guess me thinks Americans just aren't familiar with "most" British actors. He is rather handsome. hugs bus

I think Gambon was perfectly cast for "Path to War" as President Johnson. A great movie with a great cast, and he like the rest is terrific.

I also liked his small role in Angels in America That was a great play/mini-series! Having Michael Gambon added to the credits made it even better for me!
