So I hear they're looking for someone younger to play Max in the upcoming film, which makes me think they're doing another action film.. Ok, fair enough, I'm sure it will be a good film, but part of me would like to see this story offer us something more than just another summer blockbuster film full of fights and stuff blowing up.
I'd be more interested to see Gibson (for better or worse) reprise his role, but not pretending to be 25.. let him be his age.. I'm curious to know what happened to Rockatansky, did he move beyond his pain and anger? Was he able to settle down and make a life for himself in the tragically changed future depicted in the films (and ever too quickly coming to pass in our lives) Did max finally find inner peace or even perhaps love again? Sure.. it's not the mad max film we saw years ago, but we've all grown since then, why can't he?
The other films showed us the dark world we're moving towards, perhaps this film can show us a vision of how we can move through the period of transition and create something more sustainable afterward? I understand there has to be some kind of conflict in order to hold the audience's interest, but there are options. What if an older, wiser (and in full recognition of the limitations of his abused and aging body) Max found a way to protect his loved ones and maintain his integrity while allowing the violence, desire and fear of the aggressors consume and destroy them from within? Could he be the same powerful force he always was, but perhaps more subtle and refined after a life time of experience?
Look around the world today, the consequences of domination strategies are painfully clear, don't you want to offer us something that gives us other options? -

This is, essentially, what "Beyond Thunderdome" was about. From all previous accounts, "Fury Road" - like "The Road Warrior" - is, basical5b4ly, a silent film.
So, we'll see how this plays out.
