I'm not the biggest Miley fan, but that is completley true
Miley became famous and as big as she is now because of who she is (and because of Disney's bizzare abillity to turn anything, including something as stupid as blue toilet paper, into a money machine) and she is already more famous then her dad ever was and ever will be
If her dad were to quit Hannah Montana and stop trying to salvage his short lived career, she would still be famous and nobody would really care all that much
(if he were to quit the show, they can make up some crap about how he married Kate Moss and got a recording deal in Kalamazoo-like the tonya/scholarship thing on that's so raven, except as far-fetched and impossible as every other storyline/relationship/episode having anything to do with Billy Ray on Hannah Montana)

He was not a one hit wonder! Even though Achy Breaky Heart was his biggest hit. he had other hits. Ever heard of Some Gave All, Could've Been Me, Busy Man, I Want My Mullet Back, Wanna Be Your Joe. probably not because you people probably don't listen to country. billy did give miley the tools to make it in the business. if it weren't for billy i don't think she would be as big as she is. i went to a concert of his this past summer and he still can draw in a big crowd, and i doubt that if he were a one hit wonder, he would be able to draw in a crowd like the one i saw. so i seriously doubt people forgot about him.
oh and i just want to add that i only started watching Hannah Montana because i heard he was on it.

Yep. Billy Ray has been making music for years. It's just that it's country so you might not have heard about his stuff if you don't listen to that kind of music.

Billy has his daughter to thank for reviving his career.
The new Bond flick should've been called Quantum of Soulless instead!

Billy Ray is important for Miley because he's familiar with the industry, but he IS a one hit wonder
A One-Hit-Wonder is someone who has one really really good/popular song, and possibly a few more singles that don't do as great-then they fall of the face of the earth, and sometimes come back and shortly revive their career
That basically describes Billy Ray Cyrus.
You are right-I never listened to country music-but I moved to houston, texas two years ago, and apparently the "everyone likes country music" stereotype is true-I asked around after posting this, and the people I asked only knew him as the guy who sang achey breaky heart in the 90's and is Hannah Montana's dad- and nothing else
Achey Breaky Heart is still pretty popular, though.
and I didn't mean to say that he never mattered and that he didn't matter AT ALL to the country genre (because Achey Breaky Heart was and still is a really popular song), but "Hannah Montana" and Disney itself potray him as like the greatest country singer of all time-and it gets REALLY annoying! It's like "okay, you had a good song, but you're not the freaking founder of country music"
Also, it bugs the crap out of me that in the show he's related to Dolly Parton, married to Brooke Sheilds, and went out with Heather Locklear (who btw looks like a bitchy soccer mom)-idk why, but to me it seems like those were all ploys created by him to make him feel and make it look like he matters
            wow, that was a novel!

Maybe those were "hits" to you because they were released to country radio for a minute and then never heard of again but having a "hit" usually means that it's a known song that EVERYONE knows (and likes or dislikes). You are the only person who knows the songs that you listed.
People can't forget about him because he's a joke. The only time that he name used to come up in reference had been because of his mullet and his ONE song.

amelia lourdes, you're so effing dumb.
I DO NOT LISTEN to country music. Not AT ALL. During my senior year of high school (1992-93) I worked at a clothing store that played a country station over the PA all the time. The songs that other poster listed that were out then (which is most of them) were played ALL THE TIME all through that year. "You are the only person who knows the songs that you listed" is an unbelievably arrogant and just plain stupid thing to say.

They were played "all the time" on one country music station. Does that mean that those songs transitioned to mainstream radio at any point during that one year? No. Therefore, one hit wonder.
So, way to go. You just made yourself look like a jackass.

He was a one hit wonder and that's it. Now he's in the company of Lynne Spears Dina Lohan and Joe Simpson as parents who pimp their teenage daughters out. Good job Billy Ray.

how exactly does he 'pimp her out'? What sort of money has exchanged hands between strange men wanting sex and Billy Ray?

I'm the jackass? You're the one supposing that YOUR definition of "one-hit wonder" is the be-all end-all of definitions. Who the hell made you God? I don't really give a sht one way or the other, but you're the one taking such an obnoxiously hard line about something pretty meaningless. You're an arrogant dipsht.

Look, I know you're probably one of those people that still go to Billy Ray concerts and still believe that he's "famous" for his own name in some capacity but name calling like we're on a playground just shows that a bunch of red necks does not a smart person make. And I've stooped to your level. Instead, I'm just going to educate you.
"A one-hit wonder is a music industry term to describe an artist generally known for only one hit single."
"More commonly, however, one-hit wonders are serious-minded musicians who struggled to continue their success after their popularity waned."
"Billy Ray Cyrus reached #1 with "Achy Breaky Heart" in 1992; although he had many other country hits, he did not return to the Top 40 until 2008 with "Ready, Set, Don't Go"; by that time, he had become better-known as an actor and the father of Miley Cyrus, with whom he stars in the series Hannah Montana."
And you obviously give a beep if you're still replying. I'm going to stop now but feel free to display your own ignorance one more time and reply to this.

people say that Miley is only famous because of who her dad is, when really it's the other way around (he's only famous because of who his daughter is!)
One hit wonder or not, he was already famous before she was, so that cannot possibly be true
"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"
