    Err what ??? LOL.
What you want to estimate with BMI is the amount of body fat. Thus BMI assumes an average build.
Athletes for example have little use for BMI, because they have no such average build anyway.

While you are correct that athletes don't bother with BMI because of muscle mass, you're not quite correct that BMI measures the amount of body fat.

Yes, it is. LT is an exception because he's an athlete. Not too many people have his muscle mass. BMI assumes an average person's body and is a fairly good number to try and meet.

I'm 5'6' and weigh 162lbs, and don't have an ounce of fat on me. My BMI says that I'm over weight, but it's muscle. You said 'considering they don't have much muscle mass', where are you getting that from? Many women have a good deal of muscle and muscle weighs much more than fat.

Im sorry but I'm 5'9 and 145 pounds. I'm all lean muscle and am already considered skinny. If you're 5'6 and 162 pounds with low (10%) bodyfat then you would be INCREDIBLY muscular. Hell forget that, at 5'8 162 with a lean muscle mass I would be VERY muscular. Unless you're a bodybuilder I seriously doubt you hardly have an ounce of fat on you.
Edit: okay, since the post was from almost a year ago I'll come right out and say it since she most likely won't read it.
At 5'6 and 162 pounds, a girl would either be FAT or "normal" sized. Saying anything otherwise would be delusional.

If she's an athlete she might have such a weight without much extra fat.
Besides, she obviously cant have "no fat" because then she would be dead.

I know this is several years old and you'll probably never read it, but you aren't necessarily correct.
I had a friend in high school who was 5'6" and weighed about 145-150 pounds. We had a program at the local hospital (job shadowing and such), and at one point they measured how much body fat we all had. Hers was about 15%, despite the fact that her BMI was at the high end of normal (155 is overweight for that height). That's about as low as a woman's body fat can be and still be considered healthy. And she wasn't an athlete, either. She just had a more muscular build than average.
I'm aware that the machines they use to measure body fat aren't perfect, but since anything under 25% is considered fit (32% is obese), it's highly unlikely that hospital-quality measurements would be far enough off to put her outside that 5b4range.
So I know for a fact that it's possible for a girl that height and a little over ten pounds lighter to have a low body fat percentage. I would not be at all surprised if it was possible for someone to be 5'6", 162 pounds, and have say 20% body fat (in fact, if my friend were to gain weightpure fatto be 162 pounds, her body fat percentage would be between 21 and 24%, depending on her precise weight before). And for women, 14-20% body fat is considered "athletic" and 21-24% is considered "fit," according to the American Council on Exercise.

5'1 and 130 is perfect. To say that that is fat would suggest a body dysmorphic disorder.

BMI isn't a good indication but she was fat. She was carrying a lot of adipose tissue.

5'1", 130 lbs, can be considered fat depending on the build.
If she says she fat, she might be built like that. . . more fat than muscle which gives the appearance of being fat.

Alright, heres my two cents: Danielle Fishel did put on some weight back in the day (I heard she had some sort of drug problem but I don't know) but not enough to be called fat. Since you're saying 5'1" and 130 is PERFECT then would I be too thin at just under 5'1" and only 105 pounds? I think she carries herself very well and I like her as an actress

BMI is such a crock. You can't just plug in your height and weight and be magically told how fat you are. That's like having the same fortune as everyone else born in August: it's pure pseudoscience.
