He was absolutely atrocious in the Mist and wooden in The Punisher. I thought he had no scope at all in Hollywood. But then I saw Stander, and man, was that a mesmerizing performance. Dark Country was pretty good as well.

I think his acting was fine in the mist although maybe not SUPER. I would rather see him than paris hilton or other bitch that usually get big roles. THis guy can do the average acting and it's fine with me, I only hate below average acting.

It may be hyperbole to say horrible horrible beyond horrible actor, i've only seen him in the mist and hung, and to be honest, he wasn't very memorable at all. I remember liking the story, and liking the ending, but not one of those actors stood out to me except for maybe that crazy evangelical chick. I think he does a fair job in hung, sometimes he feels inauthentic, but i really only feel that way in some of his VOs and scenes w. the kids, and you know, i think that can be attributed to the writing, which, to me, seems to really showcase the women's talent. I'd say 75% of the time, he hits the nail on the head. plus he's paired with other strong actors and actresses as well, so i really only see his craft improving. There are definitely far worse actors out there, eg, aside from 300, i feel like gerard butler is incrementally wasting precious minutes of my life with his "craft."

His performance in "The Mist" was cringingly painful to watch. He was just so unbelievable in his portrayal of the character. The emotions and body language didn't feel genuine nor convincing at all. I was taking myself out of the story and zooming in on his sub par acting. The movie had alot of potential and could have been much better.

I'm not sure about him being "horrible", but I don't find him the best. Sometimes I wonder how he even got parts in some of the movies he's been in. The first time I saw him was in crappy "The Sweetes111ct Thing", I didn't care for his acting, then again the movie was pretty lame. But, one thing I have noticed about him, which bugs me, is that he doesn't have very good facial expressions. When he is supposed to be surprised or come to an epiphany, it just looks like bad acting. I'm not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about, but that's what bugs me about him. And I do have to agree that, for the most part, he tries to look sexy/manly instead of worrying about acting. There have been some movies that he acted very well in, though. This is just MY opinion!!! Sorry if I made anyone upset.

@ sloanrules. Ok first of all, I don't take anyone's comments seriously if they write "cuz" instead of "because".
Second, have you seen him in "The Mist"? He moves every inch of his face through out the whole movie, he's a rare actor who has so much intensity and expressions in his face.
My thoughts on movies, and then some: www.robertholik.blogspot.com -

I think basically the roles he has chosen maybe were not the best fit for him. I do like him as an actor but i will def. agree he was terrible in the mist and dreamcatcher, but those movies were horrible as well. He has done well in smaller roles such as Boogie nights and face off. He did an excellent job in 61 as Mickey Mantle. Hung was the perfect role for him, deservedly so he was recognized for it.

I haven't been particularly impressed by anything he's done besides Boogie Nights (where he only had a small role, as other have said) and Arrested Development (where he had an even smaller role). Some actors you're going to like more than they "deserve" (I feel this way about Olivia Wilde), and some you're going to dislike more than others (Channing Tatum and Nicolas Cage for me shudder). It's all subjective, there's no universal absolute best actor or worst actor. If you think he's horrible, that's fine. Probably not the best idea to say it in such strong terms on his message board, though.
