      I don't think he's an auteur, let alone THE auteur of any cinema at all. He just happens to make good life-like drama with rather ugly looking actors that look and act very much like your neighbours.

        If you had to pick the best director of british films in the last couple decades, you couldnt really go past Leigh.

          There's nothing unique about his style and he didn't make anything groundbreaking. Britain was always good at stage drama, he just translates it into films.
