Wow you obviously don't know talent when you see it. She has been one of my very favorite actresses ever since I saw her in Melvin & Howard (which she won an Oscar for). And she is one of the main reasons why 'Joan' is so great.

I have to agree with DANNYRM Mary Steenburgen is one of the main reasons JOAN OF ARCADIA is so great, and she also did a wonderful job in CASA DE LOS BABYS and as a guest-star on the series finale of BECKER.

I agree with the two people before me. Mary is great! Have you guys seen Parenthood? It has Steve Martin, Diane Wiest, Rich Morranis, Tom Hulce, Joaquin Phoenix, and more, but obviously you can just go to it's IMDb page to find out the rest. I LOVE that movie! Go rent it!

Wow! I'm glad I could convince someone to see it! People don't often decide to watch a movie just cuz I told them it was good. But I know you'll love it! I actually just watched it last night cuz I was at a friend's house who had it, and I hadn't seen it in a while. I still love it just as much!
I can't get Hippo in the bag!
Yes, I know that's a pig, but what the heck - I couldn't get a hippo! -

LOL..LOL..Elastgirl, you are funny! I too, loved Parenthood! I taught high school for a looonnng time and in our unit on Parenting, I used this movie to introduce the discussion. Students loved it also. I thought the script and the characters were fantastic. There were so many parts of this movie that were totally realistic and true-to-life. How many of us have had a black sheep brother or sister where one or both of the parents welcomed them home as the prodigal son/daughter. How many of us have seen our parents bale a sibling out of trouble time and again, only to find that child unable to ever take responsibility for themselves. I could go on and on! From the teenage girl who comes of age, to the young boy who has to deal with an immature and selfish parent who forgets he has a son, this film is so much more than just a good movie..it is a lesson in life!

This woman is very good.I have seen her recently in Melvin and Howard (1980)Mary Steenburgen made a very fine role. And she is hot!
On the other hand, she was particularly unpleasing and even annoying as Clara in BTTF 3. -

I'm going to have to agree with monorail about Mary Steenburgen. I don't watch Joan of Arcadia, but I have seen her in some movies, and I've always just been very annoyed with any characters I've seen her play. I don't like her, and I avoid seeing movies if i know that she is in them.

I have to totally disagree with whoever thinks Mary Steenburgen is a bad actress. I dearly love her in Back to the Future III and What's Eating Gilbert Grape isn't too bad either, although they don't show her much, which is bad. In all opinion, she's great!

Mary is the sole first reason why I loved movies and drama! I was only 7, and when I watched 'Back To The Future' pt III, I was just struck by her - she's a beautiful face and I dunno what it is, but there's something quite timeless about her. Yeah, she does have a distinctive voice, but that's an addition to her character.in real life, I bet you can say you know lots of people with all different ranges of voices.. She's amazing

I dissagree with you (Ostrich) to me she is a very good actress, I love her since Philadelfia the voice so gentle and I don't know she irradiate goodness even in that rol (the rival attorney)
She is great and Beautiful
