I though she was English, she said on a BBC interview that her parents were Welsh.

Her parents were Welsh and she was born in Germany, but brought up in Wales and New Zealand.

That's interesting because her accent sounds like a general English one, not Welsh/NZ.

Pam Ferris was born in Germany because her father was based there after the war. The family returned to Wales, where her father was a policeman and her mother worked in the family's bakery business. They emigrated to New Zealand when she was 14 and she was educated there. She worked at the Mercury Theatre in New Zealand for a time, but returned to the UK aged 24 and saw Judi Dench in London's West End, eventually deciding to stay and continue her career here.
