Shame on The Academy for handling Liza the way they did.

I will not attack YOU, verbally or otherwise. Your sig suggests we share a love of the Shawshank Redemption. Your comments do suggest a lack of understanding of the topics of human sex, gender and sexual orientation, which each pertain to different aspects of our humanity.
I see a claim that there are TWO sexes, followed by an acknowledgement of a third. Yes, intersex is rare but it does those people born that way no favor for us to discount them off our map.
The existence of transgender people makes it obvious that they indeed are a normal human variation, or they would not exist. (Are you OK with the existence of left-handed people and can we call them normal and natural, or are they2000 a "perversion" as well?)
There are lots of things consenting adults, both straight and gay, do in private that I might not find palatable, but if all involved are willing, I dont see why my tastes should dictate their pleasures. One should always take prudent precautions and practise good hygiene of course.
Males and females did indeed evolve in numerous species as one way in nature for reproduction to happen, and obviously, one cannot make babies without a male and female contribution, though sex is no longer required.
TRUE marriage? I hope you understand how very differently various cultures around our modern world and throughout history have defined that. Is your definition the only one all of the rest of us should adhere to? If so, kindly explain why. I hope it will make no reference to any specific religion that not all of us follow.
Many of us believe that a healthy marriage is based on more than procreation, and indeed, more than sex, however nice those things can be. Love and companionship are treasured by many couples, and if gay people can find love and wish to share their lives as a couple, I just can't think of any logical reason for me to object. I just cannot see what harm they do me or our culture by sharing their lives, or by walking past holding hands.
Like a rapidly growing majority of Americans (not to mention Canadians, Western Europeans and South Americans), I also see no valid legal reason for denying same-sex couples the legal protections of legal marriage. The 14th Amendment of our Constitution and previous Supreme Court rulings would all seem to support that view.
I wish you would explain what harm specifically you feel is done to this world and how exactly we have been sent down into the sewer by most of us accepting the family value of love, respect and dignity for our gay cousins.
I have seen enough to know I have seen too much.

Ok.
Let me educate you.
Gender is not sex, and sex is not gender. Sex is biological. We cannot change our sex, that is a correct statement. Gender is a social construct, created over time by man. In different cultures, it can mean different things.
You can argue with me till you are blue in the face, however medical and psychological professionals will agree that Transgender individuals are not mentally ill.
Some people are just born with a brain that matches one gender, and a body that fits the other. If it upsets you that much that a person chooses to identify by a different gender you need to get out and see there are REAL struggles in this world.
Also, Riley did not mutilate her penis. She still very much has one. Not all transgendered individuals have bottom surgery.

'You can argue with me 1c84till you are blue in the face, however medical and psychological professionals will agree that Transgender individuals are not mentally ill.'
If medical science SAID HOMOSEXUALITY is a mental-illness, then that contradictes your evidence since it was once considered that. The same thing could happen with so-called TG; it could be considered a mental-illness later. Medical science once said too many eggs was dangerous, then retracted it. Reciprocals
'We cannot change our sex',
You don't say!
'Also, Riley did not mutilate her penis. She still very much has one. Not all transgendered individuals have bottom surgery.'If no bottom surgery, then that contradicts the passion to "have the body match the mind", which TG claim.
TG just convince the doctor by nagging and insisting they were born in the wrong body, so the psych eventually BELIEVES THEM. Shrinks ONLY KNOW WHAT YOU TELL THEM, AND THEY CAN BE FOOLED EASILY. -

I, too, was disappointed with the Oz tribute. If nothing else, Liza & Lorna should have been the ones to introduce the clips and song. However, i do think that Pink did a very good job with Over the Rainbow. I like the idea of giving Judy a posthumous award. Alas, another missed opportunity.

As to Liza never singing Over the Rainbow, I recall hearing her sing it some years back, beautifully, leading me to decide that she is the only singer I'd ever want to hear doing it, besides her mom of course.
I have seen enough to know I have seen too much.

And at her Liza's Back concert in 2002 in NYC (and CD), she sang Never Never Land, ending it with the last stanza of Over the Rainbow. So we're sort of both right.
I have seen enough to know I have seen too much.

It was all a real mess. If they wanted to honor Judy Garland with a tribute, they should have done so properly. Hell, it's not so difficult to make a good tribute these days
And the joke was pretty dumb to be honest. I'm surprised Liza did not get more angry about it. After all, she had been invited to represent an important part of the ceremony. It's not as if she was Bob Hope and here for the jokes.

Well said florlite. Sorry for real late reply. Looking up Liza since it is her birthday and read your post. But to answer your post. Why Wizard of Oz? The Academy should have tribute to the films of 1939. For many movie/film buff to the mainstream film historian that was the year of film history where more classics came out that year than any year since. They blew it!

There was a time when Oscar night was Liza's night. She picked up her Oscar onstage in 1973, she opened the show in 1974 and closed it in 1984 by paying tribute to Ethel Merman. She also co-hosted the show in 1983 and she didn't need to resort to cheap gimmickry to keep the audience and viewers entertained. Unlike Ellen, Liza's star wattage was more than big enough for the show.
For Ellen to use Liza for her low brow gag was an insult not only to Liza, but to Hollywood. Liza has made her mark in the film industry. Ellen is a mere leach. I guess the producers of this year's Oscar show also felt the tribute to Wizard of Oz was wanting and they went big time in paying tribute to The Sound of Music. It was glorious to witness Lady Gaga treat the material and its star Julie Andrews with great reverence. It was a moving tribute and the highlight of the show.
Now I can only hope the Academy can do the same for Liza by paying tribute to Cabaret in the near future. -

nothing wrong with being a liza fan..but in films, she had a VERY short shelf life, only starred in a
handful of movies..to dis jennifer lawrence as a wannabe or a "starlet" is uncalled for,she already,in her mid-20s,has a far more serious body of work than minelli, who stopped doing serious impactful work over 30 years ago,and hasnt carried a film in 40..wonderful talent, but the past is the past. -

And what makes you think Jennifer Lawrence will be having a long and successful career??? Do you actually own a crystal ball? Everyone in the early 1970s thought Liza was IT. She had won the Oscar and shortly after, an Emmy. Liza was also in her mid-20s and she seemed unstoppable but the films she chose to do after Cabaret were major disappointments and they did stall her career in films. Yet she was never out of the limelight as she did Broadway and won Tonys and ruled the concert circuit.
So what makes you think Jennifer Lawrence won't go the same route??? (Lawrence is in for tougher times since she can't headline concerts.) -

because she cant headline concerts???? Your drama queen is showing..she's not cher,Liza or barbara.but a serious actress ..and as far as crystal balls,YOURE the one who called her names..practice what you preach..nobody "dissed" your princess,princess..
