I think this goes to show that he didn't really have a career at the White House, he was just trying to appear busy since he couldn't get any acting gigs. I mean honestly, who leaves an important job for a third Harold & Kumar movie!?!
I could buy it if maybe it was some kind of potential oscar movie. -

he was busy; on House. Even chose to risk that to work with the government. House is probably his biggest acting gig (perhaps HK).
Emphasis on
was
. His character was written off. He only did the WH crap to look busy while he tried to find another gig, which he never really did because the H&K thing had already been in the works and he new he had that one. Face it- he's a terrible actor and will only last in the business as long as the H&K franchise keeps making movies.
