personally i would say Andrew Niccol (Gattaca(his debut film in 1997)/Lord of War etc) beats a large chunk of that list overall as he's not failed me yet on the four films he's done as all four of his films are memorable with the best of the bunch being 'Lord of War' which is one of my all time favorite films.
but to make some comments on the article- Paul Thomas Anderson

Best: Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs (with Kill Bill vol1+2 being close)

Best: Fight Club
Worst: Alien 3
Best: probably The Game/Se7en
Worst: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
