Wait, so he parked his car, or tried to park it, got out, walked quite a distance behind it, and somehow his car reversed back down the driveway with him not noticing it, and it hit him and pinned him against a brick mail box pillar and security fence???? What in the hell???
Sounds a little hard to believe, but if this report is really legit, then that is a very crappy way to die!

More plausible is that he was out side the vehicle for whatever reason when it began to roll down the driveway and he probably tried to stop it before momentum fully took over and the car took him with down the driveway until being pinned

It must have been rolling pretty darn fast, to crush and kill him if he was attempting to stop it. Best thing would have been to let it crash into the mailbox wall. It is a bizarre way to go.

I just saw some pics that were purportedly of the scene. The car and the body had been moved, of course. It looks like the car rolled into him and he was pinned between the car and the gate, as if he was unable to get out of the way. The gate was dented. Apparently the vehicle was a 5,000 pound Jeep Cherokee.

The poster I responded to, had suggested that he may have tried to stop it. That appears very foolish if the car is big and heavy. Let the insurance foot the bill if that was the case. Like you have commented, it is more than likely it just rolled into him and he was too late to notice it.

Yes, I doubt i5b4t was a matter of him trying to stop the car. He got out, it moved, trapped and crushed him before he could get out of the way.

Yes, it is a shame and tragic that an accidental mishap like this has snuffed out the life of a cute looking and even endearing young man, who had an interesting career\future ahead of him.

More likely, but people can also do really, really stupid things when they don't have the time to think about it but move on instinct.
One case I know of, I heard of it from her friend, was of a woman doing a paper route breaking her arm when she had stopped to put the morning paper into a mailbox without getting out of the car (the way they do it on country routes where I live, morning papers are put into the mailboxes which are on the side of the road so that the deliverers, both newspaper and mail, can do it without getting out of the car. Those cars belong to the company and the driver's side has been changed to the right).
So her car was on neutral and started to roll a bit, that mailbox was right next to the gate to the property and that gate had two big rock posts on both sides.
And because her hand was already out of the window she tried to get hold of the post. It broke like a twig. The car wasn't even yet moving fast at that moment, in fact it was moving hardly at all, but it was a big van.
Later she said that she had just not thought at all but had done it completely on instinct. So of course she had known she would not be able to stop the big van like that, but she just hadn't
thought
. At all. She had just moved. And realized the stupidity even before her arm broke, but at that moment it was already both too late for her to pull it back and too late to hit the brakes.
And btw, considering how much even smaller cars weight, it does not even need to hit you fast, if most of that weight comes to rest on some more vulnerable part of a puny little human - like maybe the rib cage - that human could be crushed to death by the weight alone. -

This incident reminds me how I almost crashed my van when I Tried to take off a pull-over sweatshirt as I was driving. It got hung up around my big head I still get weak in the knees thinking about the stupidity of it, even decades later.
I just heard about Anton's death a few minutes ago. And I thought I was a Star Trek fan! I really thought he was a great Chechov. He made him funny and likable, but still super smart. Wow, It has really upset me, especially after learning the details.

From the dent in the fence, and the position of the brick column, he was hit with tremendous force, and at very least, completely unable to breathe or move. Also it looks like an exclusive neighborhood where it wouldn't have been easily visible or heard by others.
Must have been absolutely terrifying last moments. RIP.

The "blame" game is about avoiding and going into denial about the "reality", "mishaps" and "sufferings" of life. It always has to be something else, or someone else. It just is most of the time. Yelchin may have simply forgotten to put on the park break, so his "own" actions had a consequence.

You mean the park break, if it was a manual vehicle? Or was it automatic? The car was found in neutral and the park break would have need been engaged regardless of the transmission, due to the slope.

no i mean park on the shifter. yes it was found in neutral because park on the shifter wasnt selected because no doubt due to the design that makes it hard to know when you are in park or not and hense why it was recalled. yes he should of engaged the park break (handbreak ) but most autos can hold the car on a slope without the park break..
