Fair enough and I agree. But can you honestly say that you are as upset when a black parent tries to discourage an inter-racial marriage as you are when a white parent does so? Do you paint each of them with the same racism brush?
I would most certainly paint everyone with the same brush just like I've been raised to do. I wholeheartedly believe that people should date someone who makes them feel loved and secure and skin color should be one of the last things people think aboutunless 5b4that person is purple with green stripes or something.
The only time I can remember being angry at one of my black friends dating someone white was because I overheard him say some nonsense like "Black women have too bytchy", but I wasn't mad at his girlfriend, I was mad at him. I felt like his comment was more of an insult to women in general than it was towards black women, as IMHO I felt like he was looking for a doormat to date and felt white women where a better option for that.
And once I stopped seeing a white guy I was semi dating becuase I got tired of him saying various things like "I like brown suger" and "Chocolate caramel girl" which indicated to me that he was more interested in the idea of dating a black girl than who I was as a person.
Did any of that make sense?

Thats very nice of you to say! Thank you. I think Im a glutton for punishment. Whenever a situation like this ha1c84ppens I find myself drawn to the discussion only to find myself getting more and more frustrated because everyone seems to be looking to one up the other. Its much easier to discuss this topic outside of the internet. Ive found people seem to be a lot choosier with the way the say things when everyone is face to face.

Sorry taggert but I can't agree with you. I wouldn't call your post racist by a long shot but I do feel it is a very close minded and backwards way to be. Would you not love your grandchildren regardless of what color they are? And how selfish is it for the grandparent to want the grandchild to look like them when it isn't even their child?
Secondly, DOG's comment had nothing to do with what you stated. All I heard was he didn't want to make a mistake and say the word "N" in front of a f$*ng "N". Then went on to say he will disown his son for dating a black girl. Had he said he did not want to accidently say "N" in front a black person it may not have sounded as harsh but he called her a f#*ng "N"! Dog is a racist period. -

Yes I would love my children regardless of what color they are. What I am trying to say is what is wrong with being proud of your race? When you treat everybody with dignity and respect. I friend of mine wanted to adopt a child so she placed an ad in the paper. The ad stated that she only wanted to adopt a white child because she is white. What is wrong with that? People should be allowed to have their personal preferences.

Are you really going to compare TV shows (I was the only one carrying a protest sign during taping of Cosby and The Jeffersons) with state-sponsored racist policies? You really have only 2 choices: You can reiterate NOW that ALL race-based exclusionist policies are immoral, or you can laugh and say OUR "kick-at-the-can now". Do you really want to hurt white people who very well may have no (or likely, very little) racist attitudes to people of African descent? You want innocent whites today to pay for the evils of slavers in eras we ALL want to forget but are NOT ALL guilty?

But there is no such thing as a White entertainment TV station , but I can count at least 4 that are for african americans in the washington d.c. area so do not even start with that white only or white cast garbage

People in the majority will always have more power than the minority. This is called DEMOCRACY.
You say keep affirmative action until "race" is abolished. Good luck with that, as affirmative action relies on "race" to maintain itself and the division, anger, and self-loathing such an unequal hand-out system propogates.
I don't benefit at all from American slavery. My family came to this country from Austria 50 years ago. If anything I am a VICTIM of racism. And whose family tree is free from enslavement anyway? How far back in the history books must we all delve to find some nationality or skin color to blame? Are present-day Israelis to hate Egyptions for Exodus?

I'm pretty sure the USA is similar to Canada in this respect, but there are already constitutional guarantees in place to prohibit discrimination by race or gender or creed, and labour tribunals in place to handle complaints by employees, workplace regulations, minimum wage standards, worker's compensation, unemployment insurance, we don't need affirmative action anymore! Here in BC there is a legislation on the table to RESERVE some parliamentary seats for women and minorities. People can vote for whomever they want, and the majority of voters are female!

I have no problem with reparations or treaty settlement. If you are a rich son of a Georgia plantation owner, you should give back what you've inherited unfairly. But to lambaste every "white" person just off the boat from wherever is unfair, and to punish the sons and daughters of "yankees" who died fighting to free slaves is also unfair. Here in Vancouver, the city just settled a treaty with the Musqueam band, turning over a golf course and university endowment lands that could potentially be worth billions (the average home in Vancouver c238osts over 1/2 million) I have no problem with that, pay back what you have taken, but DON'T treat people differently under the law because of ethnicity.

I have been told more than once that as a "white" person I benefit from slavery. Slavery was unforgiveable, atrocious and contemptable, but I don't understand how I benefit from it. All of my parents, both biological and adoptive grew up in economically disadvanted situations living in dilapitaded small homes, oftentimes adjacent to railroad tracts in small towns in Oklahoma and Arkansas. They had no money for college, couldn't afford to own a car and literally pulled themselves up from these situations without "parental" assistance, nor any assistance. They never became fabulously wealthy, just average working class persons. So, how exactly, have I benefitted from a hideous act carried out by evil persons more than 100 years before I was born?
