or is it mainstream? either way it's a classic and a masterpiece.

why do you think dagon is gordon's best film? is this partly influenced by and is this partly based on it being the best made lovecraft movie adaptation bc you are such a huge lovecraft fan?
dagon is a work of art. and it's art at it's highest level. stuart gordon is a remarkably gifted film director. i'd put him up with all the best film directors of all time even. i say even bc a lot of people would be not in agreement with this bc he's directed some kind of corny, kind of bad movies. but his best films i'd put up with the best films of any film director.
oh dude you have to watch the pit and the pendulum from 1991 directed by stuart gordon. it's art. it's serious gordon and it is very arthouse, classy, and very european film.
so i just watched for the first time the masque of the red death directed by roger corman and starring vincent price. i didn't like it. it was too slow moving and too old of a movie for me to like. i just can never like movies made in the '60s or before bc they are just so slow moving and just not made the way i want movies to be made.
i've also watched recently the raven a poe film directed by corman and starring price, the fall of the house of usher a poe film directed by corman and starring price and also tower of london a poe film directed by corman and starring price. i don't like any of these movies, too old and too slow moving. gosh dang corman loved to adapt poe stories into movies and he always used price in these poe adaptations.
i also just watched the fly with vincent price. it's really good. i highly recommend it to you. i bet you've already watched it though.
did you know they made a porn parody of re-animator called re-penatrator? it's a good video. unique, clever, quite ingenious, and very original looking and it has very original ideas in it's presentation. like green cum. it's very wild and you have to watch it.
who is sophie?
well i live in the past in my mind frame, sensibilities and lifestyle, in my point of views. i was told once that i'm an old soul. i personally live in my mind and spirt in the 1980s bc for me that is the best decade of all time and there will never be a decade as great as that decade. never will there be a decade with as many visionary movies, music, tv shows, and toys as the 1980s.
i found out lovecraft died pretty young, he was only like 60 something when he died, maybe even younger than 60 something.
i find it very interesting how he's so big in the horror community but outside that, in the mainstream he's not well known. i find this interesting bc you'd think he would be more well know you know a household name since he is so respected and is a legend in the horror community.
ever heard of the band the misfits? i heard they made songs based on horror movies.

It's the best film I've seen by him. I was impressed with everything in it - the actors, the sets, the location, the effects. It was a top-notch production and it comes very close to capturing the look and feel of Lovecraft's story, The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Most Lovecraft adaptations never succeed in recreating the feel of his original stories; Dagon came very close though, more so than any other Lovecraft adaptation I've seen.

I love The Masque of the Red Death. It features one of Price's finest performances.

I love The Raven and House of Usher! I haven't seen Tower of London yet.
The Fly is great too, of course.

A poster on this board.

I agree with some of that. The 1980s were certainly better than the present. I seem more suited for the 1880s though.
i found out lovecraft died pretty young, he was only like 60 something when he died, maybe even younger than 60 something.
He was only 46. He died of intestinal cancer. (Very painful, I've heard.) Always the writer and always being fascinated by science, he kept a detailed diary of his illness. I can imagine that he kept on writing right up until he died or at least until he became too weak to hold a pen to paper. That's the kind of writer that Lovecraft was.
ever heard of the band the misfits? i heard they made songs based on horror movies.
Of corpse!! I was a punk rock kid in the 80s. The Misfits were one of my favorite bands. I only like the original 1977-83 band (when Glenn Danzig was the vocalist). The Misfits reformed in 1995 without Danzig, I never cared for that version of the band.
And, yes, many of their songs were based on or inspired by horror movies. -

high praise you gave to stuart gordon on his dagon. i'm very happy you respect gordon so much for this film accomplishment. gordon is a film artist and a visionary of the highest proportions.
the ending to dagon is one of the best endings to a film ever. how the camera keeps panning further and further away from the main half fish/half girl character, the half fish/girl character.
that was so captivating, so epically great, so exhilarating, and so iconic of a shot. the makeup of the half fish/half human people is so impressive and so real looking. my gosh, how did they make them all look so real?
dagon is art at it's highest achieving level.
and the half fish/half human girl was so ****ing hot. geez who cares that she's not fully human, i'd **** her in a heartbeat even if i was petrified of doing it bc of what she looks like!
would you **** her if you had the chance?
i've watched price in countless movies at this point and he's always great, no matter what movie he's in. he was particularly great in the tingler. have you watched this movie?
what is sophie's user name on here? there's is a sophie on here that i've talked to.
you agree with exactly what about me saying the 1980s is the best decade ever as far as how many visionary movies, tv shows, music, and toys were made in the 1980s?
joe bob briggs in in search of darkness that documentary i told you about said it very well when he said, in the 1980s filmmakers were about creating movies whereas nowadays filmmakers are into recreating movies we've already had.
i find it kind of romantic but also tragically sad if lovecraft continued to write till his dying day. gosh can you imagine dying at 46? that is so horribly young to die at.
i didn't know you were into punk rock music. some of the movies i've mentioned on here horror movies you've never watched so you never know if you liked punk rock music. i think there is a connection with a person liking punk rock music and liking horror movies.
bc they both represent an anarchic sensibility and aesthetic. and often times outcasts like to listen to punk rock music and watch horror movies.
exactly i've always imagined the band is better with glenn danzig than without. can't believe glenn danzig goes as far back in music as 1977, that makes him really old now.
wonder why he left the misfits?
danzig is a big fan of the band black sabbath. i know this from watching his episode of that metal show about 10 years ago with bill ward, the original drummer of black sabbath. danzig said that their first album, self tilted album is one of the most influential albums ever made. do you like black sabbath?

If I was a Lovecraftian half-fish creature I'd probably like to mate with her. Otherwise, I prefer the other girl (the main character's girlfriend), she was a real catch!
i've watched price in countless movies at this point and he's always great, no matter what movie he's in. he was particularly great in the tingler. have you watched this movie?
Yes, The Tingler is my favorite William Castle film. It's on my Top 50 list. Other Castle films I love are 13 Ghosts, The House on Haunted Hill (another classic with Vincent Price), The Spirit is Willing, Mr. Sardonicus, Homicidal and The Old Dark House remake.

Toys in the 80s? Does the Rubik's Cube count? I loved those things.

True.

He had musical and personal differences with the other band members. The brothers Doyle and Jerry, the Misfits' guitarist and bassist, were notoriously sloppy musicians, which is fine for punk rock, but Danzig wanted to move on musically and start playing more complex material. In 1983 he started Samhain, a Gothic/metal/post-punk band; the band's music was a step up from the Misfits. The horror themes remained but there was also a more "serious" occult element to the band's lyrics and image. Eventually, Samhain morphed into the band Danzig in 1987 and Glenn took his music in a much more mainstream metal/hard rock direction. I prefer Samhain over both the Misfits and Danzig.

but if the half fish girl/half human girl was more beautiful than any other girl in dagon wouldn't you want to have sex with her more than with any other girl in this film? so isn't it more important what a girl looks like than the fact that she is only half human?
i've watched mr. sardonius thought it was really bad and really boring.
did you know that william castle actually produced rosemary's baby? i find this extremely odd. i just found this out about a year ago. i find this extremely odd bc when i think of castle i think of old '50s innocent, kids horror films like the tingler or house on haunted hill not something evil and adult horror like rosemary's baby.

what about the black sabbath album master of reality? do you love it? also do you love their album sabatoge? i heard they came back with ronnie james dio and made their hardest rocking album ever with sabotage.
what's interesting to me is dio not only made the album heaven and hell with bs but also made the band called heaven and hell with richie blackmore.
also they had the drummer vinnie apacie when they made sabatoge who is the younger brother of drummer carmine apiece.

I thought the other woman (Spanish actress Raquel Merono Coello) was more attractive. I like Southern European women.
The actress who played the half-fish girl is attractive too. But, sexually, I'd prefer her as a human not a half-fish person. I don't believe in interspecies sex.

No, but that's interesting. Maybe he agreed to produce Rosemary's Baby after seeing Polanski's Fearless Vampire Killers (1967), which was much more of a horror comedy film and similar in some ways to Castle's tongue in cheek horror films.

no way, you'd actually have sex with the half fish girl if she was fully human over the more beautiful girl in this film if she was a half fish girl? that's amazing to me bc you said your mind is in the 1800s so i'd think you would be more independent of a thinker than liver than that. more open minded than that.
nothing wrong with sex with animals by the way. if you are a girl nothing wrong with having sex with a gigantic donged horse and nothing wrong with me watching you having sex with said gigantic donged horse. i mean they have freaking insanely big dongs so every girl at least has thought of in a fantasy way about having sex with a horse.

do you love it? i thought it was boring in a lot of parts bc well it was made in 1967 so it almost has to be boring to me but i liked a lot of it and thought it was quite original and quite clever with it's humor and lines of dialogue.
also it's quite ahead of it's time as far as it being a vampire film with comedy and it's humor was quite ahead of it's time and quite clever with it's humor and lines of dialogue.
yes, didn't i tell you she pretended and professed to love me and get together with me? also she sent me nude pics of herself and even audio recordings of her voice.
she did everything you can possibly expect from a girl who wants to be with you in a relationship but then would not reply for 2 months and did this more than once and when i asked her to please talk to me she would either say nothing or said she will but never did. she's a horrible person who only wanted attention.

But she probably does not count because she's a manly lesbian who doesn't have any tits.
What do you think of Bette Davis? She had pretty big tits. In Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? her tits come down to her stomach. Do you like old ladies with big tits? -

You can probably title it under a "cult classic" these days, as I believe the years have been kind to the film. The Stepford Wives was modestly successful during its initial release, but wasn't a huge hit on par with previous cinematic adaptations of Ira Levin novels. Which was what the studio was hoping for im sure.
Its not a film that has enjoyed numerous re-releases on dvd, bluray, like other films, so its very much a cult classic as it certainly has its place, but I wouldn't go as far as claiming the film is mainstream.
I really feel sorry for anyone who watched only the Nicole Kidman version and not this one. Talk about "missing out"! -
lukejbarnett — 4 years ago(June 17, 2021 05:23 PM)
"the years have been kind to the film." it's very entertaining even to me who is a gen x person which is very impressive. so it's not a usual slow moving '70s movie, it's entertaining all the way through, that's why it holds up so well according to my film likes.

Yeah, I remember buying the dvd of the original shortly before the Nicole Kidman version was released in theaters. Which obviously pales in comparison to the subtlety nuisances of the 70s cult classic.
About the best thing I liked about the Nicole Kidman reboot of The Stepford Wives was the teaser trailer. I'm not sure if the film itself really had a specific identity? As some of the Stepford wives seemed simply hypnotized, while others came across as actual cyborgs.
I remember reading somewhere that some people involved with the reboot were under the impression that the film would be akin to the psychological thriller the original was, while others thought the film was going to be an outright comedy.
Apparently, this confusion carried over to the film itself.
Thankfully, the original was MUCH more focused and CLEARLY the better film by a mile!
