Wait why did his cat die at 5 years old? My cat is 18. May 9 2007 is her birthday.
18 is a good age for a cat.
With vets, good care and without harms in their past, cats can become easily older than 20 nowadays.

My mom's cat was 19 when she died, Patrick. She had a tumour. I took her home to think about options. A few days later, she died on her own, in a bed.
You really jumped the gun getting your 5-year-old cat euthanised. The cat would be alive NOW if you hadn't. Are you going to tell me he would've died on his own within the month if you hadn't? I seriously doubt that.
Cats who are 5, not even a SENIOR yet, don't just get terminal kidney disease. This could have been treated. Easily.
Why even put her to sleep AT ALL? What he still purring? Could be still jump on things? Was he still eating/drinking? Probably YES to all. If he lost his appetite, did you even bother to get him the most fattening, tasty junk food treats to eat that he'd enjoy? THEN WHAT WAS THE POINT YOU MONSTER.
I could just cherry pick anything if I wanted to get my cat euthanized from ailments that started 5 years ago. She has arthritis in her back legs, EUTHANISE! She walks slowly up the stairs, EUTHANISE! Of course cats have issues from time to time. It doesn't mean you euthanise them that quickly.

Ragdoll cats are prone to getting kidney disease.
His was advanced based on all the tests they did. The vet said he was suffering and nothing would cure him and it would just get worse and it would be the humane thing to do.
Amazing how you constantly adapt your fairy tale.
