For a Few Dollars More was pretty good

Fistful of Dollars is a great film. Very stylish, cool, and violent. A great way to introduce "The Man with No Name". I don't care if it's a remake. I've never seen Yojimbo and I have no desire to. This film is way, way better than the crappy and very overrated The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. However, Once Upon a Time in the West is by far the best of the three films. I've only seen these 3 Sergio Leone films. I can't wait to see more though.

"In your opinion. Me, I think The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is horrible. Not so long ago I bought it (after having seen it once on TV, as a kid), and I really wanted to love it. I could not; I found it abysmally bad.
I like A Few Dollars More best, but Fistful's quite nice, imo. It all comes down to taste.
(Apart, of course, from the fact that Yojimbo is superior to Fistful, which is fact, yea. ) "
I agree!!! -

I know I'm probably in a minority here but as much as I liked Yojimbo, I think Fistful is superior. Leone took the better parts of Yojimbo and cut the story better, going straight to the point and rearranging the separated family subplot so it doesn't come out of the blue in the middle of the movie as in Yojimbo. Plus, as great as Kurosawa is, Leone did a better directing job with Fistful.
Both, however, are beaten by their sequels IMO; Sanjuro was far better than Yojimbo, and For a Few Dollars More far better than Fistful. -

The fist time I watched this I thought it was okay. Then I saw it a few more times and thought it was pretty good. Just saw it again for the first time in a long time last night and right now it's my favorite of the three. It's so much darker than the other ones, I love it.
SPOILER ALERT: Soylent Green is, in fact, people. -

I agree with you! Allthough I don't think a fistful of dollars was bad. It was pretty good. The Good, The bad and the ugly was a masterpiece and one of the best movies ever made. Fistful of Dollars cannot top that. I haven't seen For a Few dollars yet though. I'm gonna try and do that tomorrow or something.

But the first of the trilogy, Fistful of Dollars was pathetic.
Especially as compared to Yojimbo, the movie its based on.
Well, by that rationale, they should just stop the remake cycle. Because
Last Man Standing
(in comparison) was terrible.
His only weapon 600 horses of fuel-injected vengeance. -

To me this is like the 'return of the jedi' of the trilogynot the best but still greatand instead of annoying ewoks you have an annoying whining little kid. Awesome movie though. I saw an Ennio Morricone interview recently (it's on the Compaeros DVD by Blue Underground) where he actually says that Fistful is the "worst spaghetti western music he made." I would strongly disagree, it has a great soundtrack that, to me at least, stands out ahead of many of his later spaghetti western compositions (but still, in my opinion, overshadowed by the other two films in the Dollars trilogy).
