Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Rosemary's Baby

Ro tells Dr. Saperstein that salt, even a few grains of it in her food, made her nauseous.
    We certainly know
    why
. But does anyone else wish they'd mentioned that in the film?
It would have made an ironical touch.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
    Didn't he discover America?
    Penfold, shush.

I'd have paid money to hear Ralph Bellamy say "I've had women eat paper."
Well, the city's being built and I'm winning this game. So don't interrupt us with trifles.

I don't understand why she has a reaction to salt? Can you please explain?

Salt is considered holy. Its used in holy rituals in many religions, especially in Judaism.
So that is why salt made Rosemary nauseous when she ate it (in the novel).
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.

Yes thank you, I missed that one! Clever touch, adding that bit.

That's weird. Salt is also used to make protective circles around a witch.

Its also used in circles like that, in some rites of other religions also.
Its because demons/ the Devil/other evil spirits are supposed to be repelled by salt.
                    Salt is considered holy.
