George Lucas rips off everything from Johnny Quest to the Christian Bible.
      Not exaggerating.
      Don't be surprised.
By the way, I'm in no way defending himjust explaining what I've noticed.

George Lucas' primary inspiration for the original STAR WARS trilogy (aka Episodes IV-VI) was THE HERO OF A THOUSAND FACES by Joseph Campbell. This was a non-fiction work which discussed all the different elements certain myths and legends have in common. And, Lucas, himself, acknowledged that. In fact, he and Joseph Campbell consulted quite closely during the pre-production of Episode IV (aka A NEW HOPE)!
So, I don't think that qualifieseven in the broadest senseas plagiarism.

No, no. George Lucas wouldn't have done that. The reason why you ask? Because when this movie was made and released it was one of those films that only a group of people would have heard about. It's one of those under-rated films. Now Star Wars, everyone knows or has seen that film. People would more likely to have said that The Crazies copied Star Wars if they didn't have a clue that the Crazies came first

Totally! Also notice how they had feet and hands? And when they walked they moved! But the most damning evidence has to be how both movies were filmed using LIGHT! Total rip off.

I suspect that Romero has very reasonably used an icon established even before Lucas used it. The interchangeable white suited golems of a far off government were a staple of 50s sci-fi.

Hmmm I'm pretty sure Romero just went and bought those masks off of a shelf somewhere. Yes, I'm sure Lucas has seen a gas mask.
What was the other unique idea you mentioned not bothering to give each of 900 foot soldiers a unique and intelligent personality?

Hate to break it to ya, but Star Wars was mostly inspired by Akira Kurosowa Samurai movies, Flash Gordon, and The Searchers. Maybe the design might've been based on the design of the military dudes in this movieMAAAAAYYYBE. But that's still kind of a huge stretch.
