He was never mentioned again, even though they've been this awesome team of gamblers for so many years. Where did he go and why didn't they stay in contact?

Exactly !! Always wondered . He was such an influential character and it seemed strange after Barry's new found success he would leave . Maybe the novel has the answers .

I always assumed that after Barry settled down with Lady Lyndon, the Chevalier simply continued his life as a wandering nomad gambler.
