: Video Review
Been meaning to get around to seeing Cujo for years, and I must say I thought the film was incredible (will add my video review when I shoot and upload it). Imagine my surprise when I check in at IMDB to rate the film a 9/10 and see it with a score of only 6/10.
So much going for this from the strong performances, the believable action and stunts, Jan De Bont's camera work, the intense percussion score, but most of all I like the story.
I had mistakenly been told this was about the family pet going rabid, but the actual story was far less simple and frankly brilliant. There's a setup and payoff for everything from the mom and son being left at home, even for the mail man not dropping by. I especially like how the mother being the adulterer seems to make her free game for the dog, keeping with the horror tradition of the transgressors getting karma. Loved the slow motion sequence at the end. There's really not much to fault it over. I suppose the dad losing a marketing account over the product being seemingly poisonous doesn't totally add up, but minor complaint.
Taking its sweet time to get to the carnage gives the viewer a better relationship with the victims. We see how the event changes them after having experienced their normal routine. Well done.
