                    His left hand was HUGE and skeletal.

                      According to the makeup designs for 5, the extra-long arm is supposed to show that Freddy's body hadn't grown back properly. He went from baby to a more "teenage" form. You know how a teenager's body is awkward and gangly? That's what this was supposed to be. He hadn't fully-formed into grown Freddy. They even called the design "Teen Freddy."
                      He still looks like normal Freddy with a jacked-up left hand though.

                        Freddy left his deformed arm in Dan's truck, even when Freddy is in the passenger seat, the "tree branch" looking hand is still sticking out of the radio.
