The Republican National Committee brought in a record fundraising haul last month, setting a January record amid President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial.
Real Clear Politics reports that the RNC “raised $27.2 million last month, bringing its total this presidential cycle to $268.3 million, easily outdistancing Democrats’ $103.1 million.”
Fundraising has been notoriously difficult for the Democratic National Committee, which has struggled to convince potential donors that it will operate in the best interests of the Democratic base. Throughout December and January — and now into February and March, the DNC is finding it difficult to throw its support behind the frontrunner in the race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Sanders has had little trouble raising money on his own, without the DNC’s help.
The RNC appears to believe that Democrats — and, particularly, the House impeachment panels — were the key to raising money in the first month of 2020: ‘Record breaking support for this president and his policies continues to grow as we head full force into this presidential election year,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told RCP.
RCP notes that the RNC has around $76 million in cash on hand, despite spending some money deflecting attacks against President Donald Trump in the last half of 2019, and bankrolling candidates for office who are already facing difficult elections. They also have no debt — something the DNC has struggled with.
“Winning the White House has always been expensive, of course,” the outlet reported, projecting how much will be spent in 2020. “In 2016 Trump spent $398 million; Hillary Clinton, $768 million. Even then, that total was dwarfed by the 2012 race when Republicans and Democrats spent a combined $1.4 billion competing for the White House. With campaign spending already booming, 2020 is expected to surpass those total.”
President Donald Trump has also done well for himself raising funds. During the impeachment proceedings alone, the Trump 2020 campaign claims they raised an astounding $42 million, adding to the $103 million it reportedly has on hand, per Politico.
“Trump is set to begin the general election with a vast financial advantage over whoever emerges from the Democratic presidential primary,” the Washington, D.C.-based political outlet reported last month. “The RNC has seven times the amount of cash on hand as its Democratic counterpart, and the president’s quarterly figure tops Bernie Sanders, who brought in $34.5 million, and Pete Buttigieg, who raised nearly $25 million.”
The Democratic candidates combined have done very well, outraising Trump. But there’s no guarantee that those who donated to, say, former Vice President Joe Biden, will all that happy to switch their allegiance — and the address on their checks — to Bernie Sanders’ operation. In fact, that’s one of the DNC’s primary concerns: that donors, who value their partnerships with Democrats, will have a difficult time opening their wallets for an avowed, anti-capitalist with eyes on nationalizing a number of industries in his first days in office.
Trump and the RNC also have yet to begin campaigning — and fundraising — in earnest. The president, unlike his Democratic opponent, has spent little during the primary season (he has no serious primary challenger), and has only begun to air ads in key states.
Trump is still your President. Charlie Kirk still Wins!

Joe Biden’s campaign trail story that he was arrested in the 1970s in South Africa as he tried to visit Nelson Mandela in prison continues to unravel.
The Daily Wire reported on the incident on Saturday, but new details have come to light: Biden says he was arrested in Soweto, a suburb of Johannesburg, a city in the northeast of the country. But at the time, Mandela was being held on Robben Island, near Cape Town in the southwest part of the country.
The two sites are some 900 miles apart.
What’s more, since the New York Times on Friday called Biden’s tale into question, journalists have been unable to find any news reports or contemporaneous accounts mentioning an arrest. Biden was a U.S. senator at the time of his claimed arrest, which certainly would have made news.
“In at least three campaign appearances over the past two weeks, Joseph R. Biden Jr. has told a similar story as he tries to revive his campaign in states with more diverse voters. On a trip to South Africa years ago, he has said, he was arrested as he sought to visit Nelson Mandela in prison,” The Times reported in its piece.
“This day, 30 years ago, Nelson Mandela walked out of prison and entered into discussions about apartheid,” Mr. Biden said at a campaign event in South Carolina last week. “I had the great honor of meeting him. I had the great honor of being arrested with our U.N. ambassador on the streets of Soweto trying to get to see him on Robbens Island.”
Mr. Biden referred to his own arrest twice more in the next seven days, including at a campaign stop here on Tuesday where he spoke of getting arrested in South Africa between efforts to coax his wife to marry him. That proposal occurred in 1977, both Bidens have said.
But Biden never mentioned the arrest in his memoir. The Times also said, “A check of available news accounts by The New York Times turned up no references to an arrest. South African arrest records are not readily available in the United States.”
Since then, no other journalist has found a contemporaneous account.
And The Times said Biden has never mentioned the story on the campaign trail until last week. The Democratic primary approaches in South Carolina, where support from black voters will be key.
The Times reached out to Andrew Young, a former congressman and mayor of Atlanta who was the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1977 to 1979. Young said he traveled with Biden on a trip to South Africa.
“No, I was never arrested and I don’t think he was, either,” Young, 87, told The Times.
Biden is adding new twists to the story each time he tells it, too. Last Sunday, he added more details about Mandela.
“After he got free and became president, he came to Washington and came to my office,” Biden said at a black history awards lunch in Las Vegas. “He threw his arms around me and said, ‘I want to say thank you.’ I said, ‘What are you thanking me for, Mr. President?’ He said, ‘You tried to see me. You got arrested trying to see me.’”
Biden appears to have trouble remembering. In August, The Washington Post ran a story headlined, “As he campaigns for president, Joe Biden tells a moving but false war story.”
On the campaign trail in New Hampshire, The Post said, Biden told a story about a four-star general he said had asked him to travel to Kunar province in Afghanistan back when he was vice president to award a heroic Navy captain with a medal. Biden said the captain had rappelled into 60-foot ravine to recover the body of a slain U.S. soldier, and as he went to pin the medal on him, “He said, ‘Sir, I don’t want the damn thing!’” Biden said.
But The Post said: “Except almost every detail in the story appears to be incorrect. Based on interviews with more than a dozen U.S. troops, their commanders and Biden campaign officials, it appears as though the former vice president has jumbled elements of at least three actual events into one story of bravery, compassion and regret that never happened.”
Biden visited Kunar province in 2008 as a U.S. senator, not as vice president. The service member who performed the celebrated rescue that Biden described was a 20-year-old Army specialist, not a much older Navy captain. And that soldier, Kyle J. White, never had a Silver Star, or any other medal, pinned on him by Biden. At a White House ceremony six years after Biden’s visit, White stood at attention as President Barack Obama placed a Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor, around his neck.
The upshot: In the space of three minutes, Biden got the time period, the location, the heroic act, the type of medal, the military branch and the rank of the recipient wrong, as well as his own role in the ceremony.

Faced with losing to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) by double digits in the Nevada caucus, Sen. Elizabeth Warren took aim not at the Vermont socialist currently slated to earn the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination but at former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has yet to appear on a single primary ballot.
Speaking at a rally in Seattle, Washington, Saturday night, Warren joked about Bloomberg’s height and suggested that her campaign is on an upward trajectory, even though she isn’t slated to win a single contest through Super Tuesday.
“I’m not in this fight to talk about change. I’m in this fight to make change,” Warren told the crowd, according to the local Fox affiliate. “We have a lot of states to go, and right now I can feel the momentum.”
As for Bloomberg, himself, well, Warren said he is “a big threat, not a tall threat, but a big one.”
“I want to talk specifically for just a minute at the top about a threat that is coming our way. And it’s a big threat,” Warren said. “Not a tall one, but a big one: Michael Bloomberg.”
Warren is, according to Wikipedia, one inch taller than Bloomberg at 5’8″. Bloomberg’s height, though, varies from outlet to outlet and it’s likely the subject of a public relations campaign on the part of the mayor who is notoriously touchy about his height.
President Donald Trump, knowing Bloomberg’s weakness, used it against him earlier this month, suggesting that, in a debate situation, Bloomberg would need a booster to look as tall as other candidates.
“Mini Mike is a 5’4” mass of dead energy who does not want to be on the debate stage with these professional politicians. No boxes please. He hates Crazy Bernie and will, with enough money, possibly stop him. Bernie’s people will go nuts!” Trump tweeted.
Warren hasn’t placed well in any of the Democratic primary contests so far. She came in third in the Iowa Caucuses, behind Sanders and former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg, and although she was expected (at one time) to win the New Hamsphire primary, she placed a disappointing fourth there, after Sanders, Buttigieg, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).
In Saturday’s Nevada Caucus, Warren again took fourth, this time behind Sanders, Buttigieg, and, for the first time, former Vice President Joe Biden.
In recents, crack have begun to show in Warren’s campaign, too. Since Iowa, she’s canceled a number of ad buys in South Carolina, signaling that she’s running out of money to spend on contests where she won’t do well (Sanders and Biden are expected to duke it out in South Carolina), and her backers are reportedly considering jumping ship, particularly if she fails to make a dent anywhere on Super Tuesday.
Warren is hoping to pick up some of the smaller Super Tuesday states, including Washington, and to do well in solidly blue states like California and Texas, where Democrats are expected to be more “Sander-skeptical” than in other places.
After her visit to Seattle, Warren flew to Denver, Colorado, for an appearance, again in the hopes that she can pick up the state on Super Tuesday.

Law enforcement officials arrested two people late this week for allegedly running two kids on bikes off the road because they had Trump flags on their bikes.
“Felony charges have been filed against a Hobart couple accused of running twin boys off the road because they had pro-Trump flags attached to their bicycles,” The Times of Northwest Indiana reported. “Snapchat videos helped officers secure charges against Kyren Gregory Perry-Jones, 23, and Cailyn Marie Smith, 18, in connection with a July 22 incident, police said.”
On the Snapchat video, Smith allegedly said, “Y’all scared, just like your president … America is not great, (expletive).”
At another point in the video, Perry-Jones allegedly confronted one of the kids and asked if he was a Trump supporter.
“Perry-Jones and Smith have each been charged with two counts of intimidation and criminal recklessness, all felonies,” The Times added. “They were also charged with one count each of theft and criminal mischief, which are misdemeanors, court records show.”
Authorities said that the couple turned the car “as if he saw the boys and wanted to hit them with the vehicle” while yelling at the boys and telling them to “pull that flag down.”
Perry-Jones, who is black, allegedly threatened to attack the boys for calling 911, and told them that if he was questioned by authorities, he would tell them that the boys called him a racial slur.
The boys said that Smith stole their Trump flag and that they chased after the car to get it back, at which point the couple dropped the flag and intentionally drove over it before driving away.
“This is an unfortunate event that involved two brothers expressing their support for President Trump,” Capt. James Gonzales said. “Our residents in Hobart should be able to express their support for any political affiliation without fear of any adverse recourse. The Hobart Police Department will continue to serve the Hobart residents to ensure they are free to express their support for whomever they choose and we will tirelessly work to preserve their 1st Amendment Rights under the United States Constitution.”
The alleged attack comes after Trump supporters across the country have been attacked by political extremists this month.
One of the most recent attacks happened earlier this month when a man rammed a vehicle into a GOP tent in Florida that was full of Republican volunteers.
Another incident from earlier this month involved a man in Florida who was charged with 10 counts of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly threatening Trump supporters with a sword.
A little over a week ago, a man in New Hampshire was accused of striking a child in the face because the kid was a Trump supporter.
During the first week of February, law enforcement officials at Arizona State University opened an investigation into a man who was caught on video screaming at a group of Republican kids about wanting to murder Republicans.
Another event, reportedly from a little over a week ago, showed far-left activists allegedly attacking a booth at UC Santa Cruz that was hosted by College Republicans.

Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) campaign responded to criticisms from CNN over its socialist platform late this week by quoting Shakespeare and making a false claim.
Nina Turner, national co-chair of the Sanders campaign, made the remarks during a segment on CNN’s “Newsroom,” which featured fallout from this week’s Democrat debate on NBC.
CNN’s Brooke Baldwin said, “There’s this new ‘Wall Street Journal’/NBC News poll that found that two-thirds of the respondents said that they were actually uncomfortable with a socialist president.”
“But when you break it down – Shakespeare once said, what is in a name? A rose by any other name smells just as sweet,” Turner responded. “What is Democratic socialism? It is government of the people, by the people, and for the people. What does that mean?”
“I am talking about this particular poll,” Baldwin responded. “And I want to – I want an answer on the fact that the majority of America is not comfortable with a socialist president.”
“He is a Democratic socialist,” Turner said, later claiming that “the majority of the American people” support Sanders’ government run health care program and free college.
“Nina, you keep pivoting,” Baldwin pressed. “You got to answer the question.”
“So, for all of the people trying to make hay over the word, Senator Sanders is not talking about socialism in a traditional sense, in terms of what happens in Europe,” Turner falsely claimed. “He never once said that the government should take over the production of all goods and services in this country.”
For starters, Sanders, who is a socialist, has repeatedly tried to brand his socialism as being the same thing that European countries like Denmark, Finland, and Norway, have – which is false. Those countries are capitalist countries that have large social safety nets – also known as big government welfare programs – that hamper economic growth.
                      Forbes reported:
The myth of Nordic socialism is partially created by a confusion between socialism, meaning government exerting control or ownership of businesses, and the welfare state in the form of government-provided social safety net programs. However, the left’s embrace of socialism is not merely a case of redefining a word. Simply look at the long-running affinity of leftists with socialist dictators in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela for proof many on the left long for real socialism.
To the extent that the left wants to point to an example of successful socialism, not just generous welfare states, the Nordic countries are actually a poor case to cite. Regardless of the perception, in reality the Nordic countries practice mostly free market economics paired with high taxes exchanged for generous government entitlement programs.
First, it is worth noting that the Nordic counties were economic successes before they built their welfare states. Those productive economies, generating good incomes for their workers, allowed the governments to raise the tax revenue needed to pay for the social benefits. It was not the government benefits that created wealth, but wealth that allowed the luxury of such generous government programs.
Sanders’ claim that he wants to be like those countries is false, which is evidenced by his repeated demonization of capitalism – which leads to the next point: Sanders is a socialist.
Turner’s claim that Sanders has “never once” advocated for the government to take over the production of goods and services in the U.S. is false.
Sanders has repeatedly advocated for nationalization ranging from the 1970s – when he “urged the nationalization of most major industries,” according to CNN – to his current socialist campaign for president, where is he advocating for forcing everyone off of their private health insurance plans and onto a government run health care system, according to The New York Times.

The shelter shared images of the small animal, who was left with a heart-wrenching note explaining his situation. Fortunately, it seems that the dog has a bright and happy future ahead of him now.
The shelter, named Xollin, is located in the Mexican state of Michoacan, Fox 6 reports. The dog was originally discovered on Feb. 13, along with a note and a stuffed animal.

Colorado prosecutors have obtained a guilty plea in a young woman’s 1980 rape and murder — a cold case they cracked just two months ago through DNA and genetic genealogy.
Truck driver James Curtis Clanton, 62, was in court Friday for a hearing when he agreed to plead guilty to killing 21-year-old Helene Pruszynski in Englewood on Jan. 16, 1980.
“Because of the unrelenting and outstanding efforts of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and United Data Connect, the resolution of a horrible sexual assault and murder in a desolate part of our county four decades ago ended within 15 minutes inside a courtroom this morning,” Douglas County District Attorney George Brauchler said in a news release.

Clanton was arrested Dec. 16, accused of abducting Pruszynski after she got off a bus and then dumping her body in a vacant lot after sexually assaulting and killing her. She had just moved to Colorado from Massachusetts to work as a journalism intern at a radio station.
Clanton was linked to the murder after investigators uploaded crime scene DNA to the public genealogy website GEDMatch.

Clanton faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison in April. He is eligible for parole after 20 years. He faced the death penalty if the case had gone to trial.
“At his age, if you asked me to guess, I'd say I don't expect him to make parole,” Brauchler said, according to the Highlands Ranch Herald.
The paper quoted Sgt. Atilla Denes of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as saying that Clanton opened up about the murder and expressed remorse as they were flying to Colorado from Florida, where he lived and was arrested.

NASCAR star Ryan Newman, in a statement released Sunday, acknowledged that he suffered a head injury from crashing on the final lap of the Daytona 500, but looks forward to getting behind the wheel again.
Newman was hospitalized Monday night in what Roush Fenway Racing officials called serious but not life-threatening condition.
He walked out of the Daytona Beach hospital roughly 42 hours after the crash, appearing unscathed.

Roush gave its first detailed account of the ordeal. The crash sent him hard into a wall before he was hit in the driver-side door by another car and became trapped in his upside-down Ford on fire as rescue workers tried to free him.
During a news conference before Sunday’s race, Roush team president Steve Newmark read a statement from Newman, who revealed he had sustained a head injury but no internal injuries.
"I was fortunate to avoid any internal organ damage or broken bones. I did sustain a head injury for which I'm currently being treated," Newman wrote. "The doctors have been pleased with my progression over the last few days."

"I have spoken with Jack Roush and he has assured me that the No. 6 car will be waiting and ready for my return," Newman concluded in his statement. "I'm looking forward to getting behind the wheel and battling for another race win in the Roush Fenway Ford."

Newmark said it was Newman's intent to race for the 2020 Cup championship this season, and the driver planned to ask NASCAR for an exemption to qualify for the playoffs once he's cleared to return. He also said Newman wanted to discuss his ordeal and injuries personally upon his return to the track.
