I can't believe no one has mentioned Noise, the best Aussie film of all time.

Hello from snowy Chicago.
I've long admired Antipodean film. Apologies to any who are offended, but I'll lump OZ and NZ together for my list, though they are very different. In no particular order, these are films I've truly enjoyed, and consider not only entertaining, but artistically substantial:
My Brilliant Career
Picnic at Hanging Rock (haunts me for YEARS)
Muriel's Wedding
High Tide
Getting of Wisdom
Lantana
Priscilla (gosh)
Last Wave (see remark about haunting above)
Dead Calm
OK, you win - separate list for NZ:
Whale Rider
Once Were Warriors
Broken English -

No one has mentioned
Where the Green Ants Dream,
a favorite of mine.
Bliss
is one of my favorite films, period. My LD died of laser rot, so I ordered a DVD from Australia.
Picnic At Hanging Rock
Rabbit-Proof Fence
The Cars That Ate Paris
Walkabout
Mad Max
A Cry In The Dark
The Chant Of Jimmy Blacksmith
I haven't seen
Jindabyne,
or
The Proposition
yet, but I just borrowed one on DVD, and have the other on my DVR, so I'll see them very soon! -

I can't believe only a handful of people mentioned Gallliopoli. That is for me the best Australian film ever made. How many people here cried during at the end?
Other fantastic Aussie films:
Picnic at Hanging Rock (2nd best Aussie film ever)
The Last Wave
The Castle
Dark City (I know Alex Proyas is Australian but not quite sure about the rest of the production)
Breaker Morant
In truth I'm not a huge fan of Priscilla. The stage musical recently played in Melbourne and I know there are die-hard fans out there. Sorry people! -

I dont usually like Aussie films for some reason. They make damn sure everyone knows its an Aussie movie cos they put on ridiculous accents that most Australians don't even sound like. Chopper might be an exception because the real Chopper sounded like that. Anyway these are the only Aussie films I liked
Candy
Wolf Creek
Chopper
Lantana
Crocodile Dundee 1 & 2
havent seen Australia yet

Lantana
The Castle
Romper Stomper
Great twisty type film is Lantana so I bought it.
The Castleonly film I have ever watched and immediately rewound and watched again!! (extremely funnie but you have to know Aussie humor(Im a Kiwi))
I just liked skinhead movies back then but I also like the back story of the guy who played Davy (Daniel Pollock) and how he committed suicide by heroin overdose just after the movie came out or was it beforewho knows??
Stay Classy
