Apparently one episode is censored on the new Blu Ray set

Looks like it's a mistake where a censored version of an episode was used for this release, and people are pissed. If the same master were used for the HD versions on Hulu, it looks like this episode was indeed mastered using a censored version.
I get why some people are upset, because a definitive release should not be censored. That said, I'm not going to lose it over having a shorter version of Aceveda being assaulted. If that's the only slip-up, I can live with that.

I haven't received my set yet, but the new transfers are available on Hulu (and Vudu) and they look great. I'm mostly excited to watch the reunion special features on the new set.
Apparently Shawn Ryan just learned about this yesterday, and he seems genuinely concerned. Hopefully, we'll be able to get replacement discs down the road.

Yes, but that's not new. The last DVD set was 16:9 as well.
The Shield
was actually shot 16:9 and cropped to 4:3 for TV. So it's not cropped to get a 16:9 picture, it's actually opened up.

I hate this show because it tries to make corrupt cops look like heroes.
Same reason I didn't like The Green Mile. Fuckin' prison guards in the South were portrayed like Boy Scouts, they wouldn't even harm a mouse. Yeah ****in' right, in reality they would be these racist, disgusting ****heads with stupid names like Buford. -

There's a part where this ridiculous villain, like so over-the-top, has that fat **** bald guy come in and say "I'm a different kind of cop," all threatening. It tried to make him look good, like a corrupt cop who beats up people during an interrogation is a hero. -

The truth is, Vic would seem heroic is some episodes and corrupt and evil as **** in others. It wasn't all black and white. That was the beauty of the show. One episode you'd be rooting for a character, and in another, you'd hope they'd die. The character of Shane Vendrell epitomized that….
