sethozlott was right that he is a character drawn straight from Anime. his goal is more righteous (his character archetype usually start out as scoundrels or assassins) but the victim element is there, and key, because in an Anime, this is the guy who, after being defeated by the hero, eventually turns and joins the good guys themselves (for varying reasons).
see: Vegeta in Dragonball, Aptom in Guyver, Suzuka in Outlaw Star, Viral in Gurren Lagann, etc.

I completely agree with you! I truly hope they find a way to resurrect his character!

Nuada stole the movie. It was a combination of everything. The fighting, the cool & creepy makeup, the acting, the way he delivered his lines. His facial expression at times broke my heart
I never thought of him as the sterotypical "villian". Yes, he killed his father but he felt grief & guilt for it. He tried to show Hellboy the beauty of the elemental forest God. He wasn't hell bent on world domination. He was more or less trying to do good for his world & for his people but the end result would had been fatal for humankind. That's not evil, that's a survival tactic. I would have loved for him to have his own movie.

          MisFitMoNeek,
I love your analysis of Nuada. I think you are 100% correct.

Yep, the highlight of the fim for me too.
Note that he is the only character in the film who is driven by an idea that is larger than himself. All the other characters have personal motivations, but Nuada is motivated by honour and justice. His goal is the survival of his people, of his culture.
Nuada is the hero of the movie.
In the end a tragic hero who comes within a whisker of triumph.
He doesn't die wondering, he takes on the world single handed and gives his all for his cause.
Ultimately he falls, but it is a noble failure.

              A little.
But it's his sister who really didn't need to die.

In case no one has noticed, Nuada wanted to do the selfless thing. The elves moved underground so the humans could have the Earth, originally in the story. The humans (both in the movie and real life) have destroyed the Earth, that will eventually result in our own extinction. Nuada's motivation in eradicating humanity was that they were dooming the planet, the planet is infinitely more than just somewhere for man to hang his hat (although that concept escapes a great many). This movie was brilliantly done in the sense that there were no villains or heroes, just characters.

Maybe 10% that was his motivation, but remember, before he killed his father he remarks how they are living, how his father lost his pride. So I think in some way he was no better than us humans, but 90% was definitely human. Anyway, I agree: he was kind of cool and the main reason I liked Hellboy 2.

Totally! Actually, the only reason I'll watch Hellboy 2 is because Nuada is an anti-villain of sorts. And yes. Prince Nuada was badass and (honestly) more interesting than Hellboy or anyone else in this movie.

True! One of the reason I hated the first Hellboy movie was that every character was painfully dull, including Hellboy himself. I think the Prince and Princess and the Goblin market saved this one from a similar fate.

In a just universe, Nuada would team up with HB and the gang, go to hell, and cut Satan's balls off with his sword. HB could then blow Satan's head off with the Samaritan.

I've always had a thing for badass Royalty. Those Royal Princes/Princesses that walk it like they talk it. Nuada died, but even Hellboy respected him and what he was trying to achieve. But the method was wrong.

Not only was he super cool, he was right. A lot of people seem to be missing the legend in the beginning. Mankind broke their promise. They agreed to stay in the cities, and the fae in the forests. Mankind continues to destroy forests in his thirst for pleasure and power. Balor was weak and failed to do what was necessary to save his people. He had resigned himself and his people to oblivion, allowing himself and ALL of his people to die in the face of man's ambition and greed. Nuada (who began as the prince and was technically king as his father had died) was just doing what was best for his people. While it may have been a bit harsh, who's to say he wouldn't have pulled off the Golden Army once they had whittled down the humans to an acceptable level? Nuada loved his people, loved the forests and the natural world. They lived like poor children scurrying under rich boots. Humans are greedy and horrific in their endeavors, whereas the elves may have had war, but they didn't destroy the world in their efforts to live and persist. Humans rape the world, taking anything they want, elves lived with the world, together and at peace with their surroundings. I felt so sad when the forest God died. From its blood sprouted growth, life. What comes of human blood? Death, disease, infection. I doubt the elves had biohazardous waste. Nuclear power? what's wrong with narutal power? The elves lived on it no problem. We won't live as long without modern medicine and medical practices? Maybe that's for the best. Look how many people die in the streets with no family or anything. If there were fewer than there are now, that wouldn't be an issue. In humanity's struggle for immortality (because immortality is an opportunity for us to ENJOY "everything") they are destroying their home. You don't Sh!t where you eat, right? Well, they do it every day. Humans are weak willed, pleasure mongers. If it doesn't please you, it's not worth it, right? i hope humanity's days end in a toxic disease riddled wasteland. I hope humanity's future laments the days when they could look unobstructed at the sky, touch the earth with bare hands, breath ocean breezes without a mask, swim in disease free waters. Nuada was the light of hope, freedom, and happiness for both worlds, and he died defending everyone. It doesn't just suck that he died, it is a tragedy in the most profound sense of the word.
"If you can't keep up, don't step up, you'll just die."
