"This movie is another example of why Lumet should pack up his camera and his outdated opinions, and just give up."
Spoken like a true d-bag. I realize that this is a response to a post made over a year ago but its just so incredibly wrong that I couldnt help but comment.
Lumet is an incredible director. 12 Angry Men, Network, Dog Day Afternoon. You say hes outdated? What about Before The Devil Knows Your Dead. A truly incredible movie and just because the themes have been around since Ancient Greece doesnt mean that they are not prevalent today.
I truly hate you Sempai. Im taking your comment personally.

Those 75% can also mean , that they just got a stupid sense of movies just like You. Most of em obviously just liked it , because of Vin Diesel. Maybe hard to believe for You , but not everyone does or has to like VD . How can one judge and rate a movie merely by the main characters performance ???? What about the plot ? Who wants to watch a movie more than 2 hours , from one he/she/it knows , the whole plot is set in a courtroom ? But first of all , if its so damned good , why it took $13 million , and brought just $1.875.000 in the first weeks (worldwide) ?? 🙂

Typical ignorant opinions who only wanna see B grade action cliches (feel free to look up some of those words if you have trouble understanding them as badly as you understood and appreciated this movie, morons.)
Great movie, funny, original, shows he isn't a typical muscle head moron, he can ACT!

Vin Diesel is a legitimate actor. The whole reason he has a career is because of the two roles he wrote for himself in Stray's and Multi-Facial, both of which I'm sure you've never heard of. Diesel wrote, directed, and produced both of them. Multi-Facial impressed Steven Spielberg enough to offer him a role in Saving Private Ryan. Stray's competed at Sundance. So, obviously he can act and you're just either too blind to see it or too stubborn to accept it. Not to mention the fact that he received an enormous amount of acclaim for his role in this movie, which got very good reviews. So basically what I'm saying is, you're opinion is completely wrong.

This movie was based on a true story with actual court transcripts used for the script. 😕

I thought the whole thing was just awful, including Diesel's performance.
He is a classically trained actor who went through the right avenues in order to learn his craft, I just think he was miscast here.

Well I thought it wasn't so bad actually I don't know the real story but most of the plot unfolds in the court room and even if not all of it is true, it wasn't boring, not everything was interesting but the real trial lasted almost 2 years and we had a glimpse of what happened, so without the time to go through the details we had a clear picture. I don't know if it is as easy to write as you think it is
The story is worth telling, at least I thought so I found my self not convinced that those guys were dangerous or a menace to society, but they really are. So in the end, the jury's verdict isn't really a surprise.
The acting isn't great, but really when you think about it, I said to myself that some of those guys doing a supporting role as mobsters did a worse job than Vin Diesel, some of them were too much of a clich I don't who you'd cast for that role With a physique of a real mobster and the "soft" side that he appears to have, not an easy choice
Of course it's only an opinion.

I believe this movie can only work if the viewer is suckered into Vin Diesel's "charm" and would also vote innocent. Or perhaps at the very least if the viewer believed him to be convincing enough and charming enough to convince a jury. I found him annoying, clearly guilty and lacking any charm/charisma (not that it would matter as far as the verdict is concerned). I realise its a true story, but if the film was faithful to events and such a travesty of justice was carried out it should highlight how inexplicable and shocking this is, not take a whimsical "cute" tone with "funny", cartoony swing music. The film was extremely disappointing, sad to see Lumet do such trash.
