Finally watched the finale, worst series ending ever.

I'm still kinda stunned by the way this went down. Total letdown for me. I honestly wish now that I'd never bothered with the show to begin with after that BS ending. I'm not going to go into any detail to avoid spoilers for those that may still be watching.

The lumberjack thing doesn't even bother me. It makes clear he is now in the pacific northwest which happens to have a statistically high # of serial killers per capita (active & inactive/caught).

The ending could have been better, but at least they didn't do the obvious thing of Dexter dying or getting caught. That would have been the worse ending ever. I just don't get people saying that Dexter needed to pay for his crimes. It's a fictional show so don't do the obvious thing. I hate in all those gangster movies where everybody always dies at the end, it happens all the time it's a clich!

Well, guess why it happens? because they're gangsters.
Dexter is no exception, he is a serial-killer and at some point he needs to be put down one way or the other.
If they pulled a The Shield finale with everyone around Dexter feeling the effects of his actions only in a well-written way it would be acceptable, but not the way they did.
I feel that since the end of Season 4 the writers have been messing with the fans, I mean, Quinn launching an investigation on Dexter in Season 5 and not backing up LaGuerta in Season 7?
All the stupid subplots they introduced throughout the series involving couples with no chemistry, minor villains with no real purpose, characters who were just there with the purpose of doing nothing.
For example, the female detective takes the sergeant position from Quinn and then she just disappears? Characters who were introduced and then killed or given a horrible excuse just to get off the show? I believe they could've done better than that, the series finale is just a consequence of the mess they created.
