It just comes off as laughable. His character is like a cartoon.

I just noticed.
Autocorrect was on, I meant "from Rogue nation". Hunt goes into the record store (IMF front) and the girl working there says "You're Ethan Hunt? I've heard stories. They can't all be true" as he slowly turns, glances and smiles at her over his shoulder.
Fighting a religious war is like fighting over whose imaginary friend is better. -

You like what you like, you hate what you hate, so I know it is pointless to argue about this stuff. And I'm not. I'd just like to present a different viewpoint here. Everything that people criticize about TC: he's too short, he's not a baaaaadass.

. I'm done with Hollywood's Steroidal Hulks and overblown Comic Book Heroes. Schwarzenegger? I never was a fan.
Reacher is NOT a cartoon; he's a Mysterious Everyman with some unique skills. They choreographed his fight scenes cleverly here: he goes for the digits, groin and eyes. And when he takes out a tall goon like Charlie (Jai Courtney) it's even more satisfying
because
of the size difference. (David and Goliath anyone?)
Also, I love the bathroom fight scene, a comic interlude I enjoy with every viewing. It's..amusing and entertaining.
Sorry to hear that the new Reacher isn't so good. -

Bryan Curtis, in an interview with Lee Child, the author behind the Jack Reacher series, describes Reacher as:
His face looked like it had been chipped out of rock by a sculptor who had ability but not much time.[1]
In A Wanted Man he is described as follows: "He was one of the largest men she had ever seen outside the NFL. He was extremely tall, and extremely broad, and long-armed, and long-legged. I don't think Tom would look good with a broken nose. Plus, his chest looks just fine without any scars.
So who would be your perfect Jack Reacher? -

Daniel Cudmore seems like a good choice. If you want to go old school, someone like Clint Walker. -

Daniel Cudmore - never heard of him. Don't think he would be cast in the lead for a big budget Jack Reacher film. Maybe if it becomes a tv series one day.
Clint Walker? You want an 89 year old to play Reacher? Well, as long as he's tall enough. -

True. Just as long as you can turn your brain back on and return to the modern world after having to shut it off for two hours to believe Tommy is intimidating to anyone larger than Vern Troyer.
