Did you want it to be supernatural?
This is better. The noise isn’t the frogs. Well it literally is, but what the girls are hearing is the projection of their own fear and primitive aggressions onto the noise these frogs make. Mass hysteria that’s brought out the evil lurking in all of us.
They can still deploy the supernatural. It’s implied through the apparent healing powers their “sacrifices” generate.

I think the whole point is to leave an air of mystery around the events, is it supernatural, is it completely explainable, we are not supposed to have a concrete answer and I don't think they will 100% answer it even in the end. I do think it is most likely that it is all psychological and not supernatural but I think the creators are never going to fully rule out the possibility of something more.

I dug the first season so hard that when season two came along I had theories and all sorts of interest but it unfortunately just never clicked for me.

I thought it would be some type of wildlife, just didn't expect it to be frogs. Most people don't know what sounds wild animals make, even ones they may think they are familiar with. The wilderness can be home to some really blood curdling noises in the dark. I expected it to be some kind of birds personally. I think this was a good narrative decision though, they want to keep it always up in the air if its supernatural or just psychological so they can never fully confirm one or the other.
