I feel like watching the good ones this weekend. I mean, just Alien and Aliens.

wtf is this??
Dazed: But seriously, why DID John Hurt dangle himself over an alien egg?
That's a very good question. The scene is best appreciated in a home theater with surround sound system and 4K Blu-ray. My interpretation is that Kane acted recklessly because he didn't know any better. It was not established whether or not extraterrestrial life of any kind had been discovered in that fictional universe of Alien up to that point. It may be that Kane was both scary and excited and in that moment his curiosity just got the better of him. After all, Xenobiology, even if it which existed, wasn't his specialty, since he was the exec officer of a freight ship. I may be wrong, though. In my opinion this is just my opinion. IMO.
Dazed: Also why didn't they follow the quarantine procedure like Ripley wanted?
Another excellent question. You must take into consideration that they may have never had to follow the quarantine procedure before due to the nature of their jobs. Apparently, that was the first time they met with a non terrestrial life form. Regardless, though, as you pointed it out yourself, Ripley's first reaction was indeed to follow the correct procedures. However, they didn't know at that time that the android, Ash, was openly sabotaging their safety because he had already been instructed by the company to bring the lifeform back. The remaining of the crew followed suit apparently both because they feared for their friends' life and because Dallas, their captain, was among those in need of assistance outside the ship. As to why didn't they let Kane quarantined afterwards, think about how people have been acting during the current world pandemic. Remember, they wren't in any kind of specialized expedition. They were normal unprepared people facing an extraordinary situation. IMO.
A cheat sheet for people too broke to watch the movie?

No not lately. I was watching some of Raised by Wolves cable series that was created by Ridley Scott. I found it for free.

Not lately, but if I did, it would only be the good ones:
Alien
and
Aliens.
The rest are mediocre at best.

I've never understood the hate for 3 either, seems to be about Newt and Hicks dying and how that somehow renders Aliens pointless. I love it, however admittedly it makes little sense of you don't watch the Assembly cut.

It’s because Alien 3 didn’t cater to children and idiots the way that Aliens did. Alien and Alien 3 took chances whereas Aliens was the “safest”, most mainstream of the three - to children that would make it the only good Alien movie.
Aliens is an awesome spectacle, but at the same time I ****ing hate how ‘Hollywood’ it is. The characters are all formulaic and dull and I think it’s the only one if the first three where I get bored during almost every dialogue scene…. almost.
But yeah.. -Alien 10/10 -Aliens 9/10 -Alien 3 (AC) 9/10 -

It either set or made good use of the archetypes for this kind of action film, very James Cameron. I'm still a huge fan of the film.
I love all the great Brit actors in A3, the creeping fear of Ripley stuck on a prison planet with murderers and rapists and their resentment of her disrupting their equilibrium. I also don't understand the criticism of the cgi, it was 1992 nearly 30 years ago ffs!
I enjoyed just about all of them in varying degrees. Resurrection is silly but extremely entertaining and it has Brad Douriff which raises the level of insanity. I could live without the whole Call storyline mind you.
Alien:Covenant was the only one I found truly awful, Ridley wimped out on continuing his Prometheus plot and wiped out the Engineers to give us another Alien. A shocking waste of the David 8 character too.

I didn't mind them killing off Newt and Hicks. It was a bold move. What I don't like about Alien 3 is that everything has a brown tinge to it, the characters aren't memorable or interesting, we're back to the one Alien formula and it doesn't do anything new with the creature or lore (other than the fact that it was birthed from an ox/dog this time), and the special effects used for the creature were also horrendous. Not in a good way. There's hardly any suspense to this film, and the action is subpar.
I still enjoy the film well enough if I'm sitting through the first 4 films, which I probably do once every year or so. But it's easily the worst of the first 4, imo. -

I think each of the films bring something different to the table.
Isn't A3 the first time we see the creature on 4 legs? Maybe that's what you meant though.
I'd definitely disagree about it being worse than 4. I actually hated 4 when I first saw it! Ripley's magical return was hard to swallow. It grew on me though.

Well, I mean, the aliens were crawling on all 4 legs in Aliens. Maybe not as fast. Seems like a minor difference to me.
I just think the cast of characters in 4 is more memorable. It may be cheesy, but it works. -

It's been a while since I last watched it in any form. The assembly cut is the one with the ox, right?
I tried to like it. I always thought the CGI was terrible but I recently learned most of it is not CGI at all and it looks like that for some other reason.
