I believe she lied so the other activists she went on the trip with would not die in vain. Even though these natives inflicted horror on the entire group until the last moment the whole reason they went was to rid the amazon of the threat of the petro company’s bulldozing. I also believe she did it to spite Alejandro who not only almost let the petro company kill her for his pr stunt but watched as all the others died. If she hadn’t lied the amazon would have been cleared and at least Jonah and Daniel wouldn’t have died in vain along with the other she didn’t know as well.

Really? Because they're a rare-ish unknown-ish tribe from the Amazonian Jungle!
Where the only other folk they have encounted is None or hardly any. Apart from the big tyrana Digger-saurus they witness now and then That's clanged a few tribbles along the way. -

My family and friends don't plan on visiting the amazonian jungle! So therefore won't be eaten by the natives who reside there. so i won't be changing my mind set anytime soon.
If someone climbs into a lions cage at the zoo and get's eaten is it fair to shoot the lion dead?

If they didn't want to be chow, they should've done what intelligent people do when trying to affect change in places thousands of miles away: write to people in positions of power who can sway Big Money into doing something different besides what they're doing at the moment.

Fair? No. Will it be done? Yes. Nature isn't fair for humans OR animals.
To answer the question of "Why does Justine lie?", I believe it's been discussed that the whole scene was a dream sequence. We don't know if that conversation even took place. -

Humans are nothing more than evolved animals.
In fact humans are worse than animals, humans kill animals to get money out of it while animals only kill for food.
I for one would support it if cannibalism would get legalized.

If I could, I would drop you right down in an Amazon jungle where some tribes it is said still do this……and we would see your tune change very quickly…and I would leave your butt there, too. Humans are worse than animals?…man, Ibet you dont have a girlfriend or many friends with that attitude.
What a piece of work you are!….and may some cannible fry your brain in their plant oils and serve over rice. A curse as of now is upon you…..in a few days you will be looking over your shoulder……a long dead cannible will rise and come for you and there is no where on earth you can hide from it. For my understanding, I think she lied because it's her way to protect the jungle that they were trying to protect in the first place. Remember those parts when her other companions kept telling her about the benefits they could reap of their activity. Like for e.g., the black guy where he let her show the jungle during their plane ride or their schmuck leader stating that he did what he did (where he made a deal with another logging company) in order to be able to implement his plans or as he sees it in a bigger picture. Basically, since all the media were tuning in to her story now, it would be a waste of the opportunity and the death of her companions would be for nothing.

She did it to preserve the rain forest. If she says the natives killed them all then they would continue with cutting down the rain forest but she says the natives were good to her so it makes people think twice about cutting down the Amazon.
