8.1 really?

I fully agree. While at the cinema, I kept switching from nearly falling asleep, walking out and praying it would be over soon.
Didn't deliver in any way, while visually it might have looked decent, it was tedious and shallow. Gave it a 6. -

People can vote what they want and it's not a cardinal scifi sin to be boring.
That said I wasn't impressed either. But then I tend to have different opinions than the general Joe on here about films.

You're confusing sci-fi with sci-fi action. Boring is subjective, but there was nothing nonsensical about the movie.
Frankly, I'm sick of movies that make it seem like humans would even stand a chance in a conflict with aliens capable of traveling between stars. That beep is nonsense.

I gave it a 5.
The acting was excellent along with the cinematography. It was even exciting, untill the last 15 minutes. Then it flattened out and became existential in a very bad way!
It had potential, but failed in the end, like a race car getting a flat tire just before the finnishing line.
All in all, a major disappointment. -

I vary between 7 and 8. Rated it 7, now 8, well maybe I'll reconsider when I rewatch it some months later.
It left me with emotions and I'm still thinking about it. I like how the movie itself is designed it ends like it started, or it starts like it ends I'm a sucker for such things ^^
Don't know if I could watch in the cinema xD Somehow I need action in the cinema (stuff like Gravity; pls no ID2) but here - at home, lying in my cozy bed - I can enjoy such movies and keep thinking. The end was so emotional.
From that it reminded me of The Tree of Life.
Loosely of Contact too.
