What is the ONE main reason this movie failed

Setting aside the critical panning the movie received, and the tepid to outright negative reaction it got from movie goers, which help define success, if it "clearly succeeded (spelling, buddy!), why were recuts done to "Suicide Squad" to make it less dark, and changes made to "Justice League", like a new cinematographer and Affleck's increased involvement behind the camera?
And, that doesn't even include eliminating "Justice League 2", making the next film no longer a two-parter (so they can end their contract with Snyder without controversy).
And, as for DVD sales, it exploded upon it's release (and one has to wonder how much the 'R' rated cut for avid fans played into sales), but has dropped since. Be careful in declaring DVD sales as the sign of success, for "Eddie the Eagle" ranks higher in sales, and was above it last week, too.

Larry Fong couldn't return for Justice League because of scheduling conflicts. Besides, if you watch Game of Thrones, you will know Fabian Wagner is a fantastic cinematographer-as he was a part of the series best episodes-Battle of the Bastards, Hardhome and of course The Winds of Winter.

Second, if you seriously think that WB is happy with $872 million, when they put three of the most iconic characters of all time in this movie, then you're delusional. -

The charactersthere is a saying in film critiques that ring true. Character is king, and if that doesn't work then your movie falls apart on a emotional level. The story of star wars is nothing special plot wisesave the princess. But the execution and most importantly the characters are king of that movie along with TFA empire and to a limited extent return of the jedi. That's why the MCU succeeds largely because of its characters and that we are attached to them. The dceu on top of the plots completely being a mess is this key flaw. Their characters are boringsuperman has no real personality traits in this film. Not only that but he can't be described without taking the comics into account or using one word phrases like reluctant which is by itself not a real personlity traityou don't need that for the mcu or star wars. The same applies to batman and wonder woman, neither of them have any real character or personality. And there is no excuse, countless films have a triad of characters that we love. Star wars is just one of them, this film doesn't treat superman or batman like characters so much as it treats them like vessels to create uninteresting set pieces. And that why the DC film universe had failed

If you can find any hint of character in these neverending, bloated Marvel team-up movies, I'd like to see it.
Batman is as fleshed out in this movie as he has ever been.
Superman is much more than just "reluctant." He's noble, virtuous, romantic, courageous, loyal to name a few.
Did Black Widow have "character" in Iron Man 2? A supporting role like that or Wonder Woman is not meant to have their entire backstory told in the movie. At least we're getting that full story for WW in a year. Black Widow's backstory has been hodgepodged together in random scenes that provide no cohesive understanding of who she is at all.

No, BW did not have any character in Iron Man 2. I guess that was why the film was called Iron Man 2, and not Iron Man V Black Widow . Character would have been nice, but it was not needed. However, it was needed in The Avengers , and she showed more character in that 5 min scene at the start, than Cavil did in the whole of the movie

How about ten reasons?
- Its Watchmen 2.0 but dumber and PG-13. The 15 minute long funeral scene is three times LONGER than the Batman versus Superman fight itself.
- Jesse Eisenbergs Lex was WAY too over the top. Hes really goofy and lauaghably bad.
- The lame introduction of the other Justice League characters. Not only was it lame but they had absolutely nothing to do with the story at all.
- The sound design in this movie was awful. Its either empty space or bad video game noises.
- Incoherent dream sequences punctuated by dream sequences inside of dream sequences.
- Far too many ideas jammed in to a single film. Even good ideas get lost in wave after wave of nonsense. Squishing every idea together results in a mangled mess.
- The brief fight between Supes and Batman was simply just the trailer shots and them screaming at each other for two minutes.
- Wonder Woman was wasted and jammed in to the movie completely underdeveloped. As a character in THIS movie (not a future movie) she has no depth or foundation.
- Cartoon Doomsaday complete with made up powers and laser eyes. Laser eyes do not make characters better. Just ask Deadpool.
- The logic in this movie is pure Snyder, dimwit logic. Plot holes, asinine character decisions and ridiculous character motivations are everywhere.
All that is what makes this movie jumbled and ridiculous and certainly poorly conceived.

Yet MCU can introduce characters in tiny cameos or in supporting roles (like Widow in IM2) and this is all fine and dandy.
News flash, the word "cameo" exists for a reason. Not every character in a movie is the main character.
TONS of comic characters are introduced in tiny cameos in one issue before getting a full appearance later on. And often their backstory is only filled in much later. See comic first appearances of Wolverine, Deadpool, etc. Terrio went to school on comic books to write this and captured the spirit and style of comic book writing perfectly.

Pretty much the same : I wanted a simple and exciting "Batman VS Superman" movie and I got a boring, pointlessly complicated and pretentious "The Godfather part 3 with superheroes, giant monsters and explosions" instead.
