given the situation in the movie the only good chance is having a gun on you prior to getting into that same spot.
outside of that your in a bad spot simply because it's three adult males vs one adult male (and two females) as even if that one adult male was fairly big and in decent shape etc the odds are not good of that one person being able to take out the three criminal males especially if they all started going off at once on the one guy which could easily happen if the good guy started trying to take out one of the males etc.
but lets just say you did not have a gun (or some sorta decent knife) you might be able to surprise one of them by kicking them in the nuts and even if that worked you still got two guys left. but if that guy somehow takes it and semi-recovers he's going to be furious at that point and being they are a criminal it will be much easier for them to get violent then the common person who generally avoids conflict as much as possible.
hell, the way some people are nowadays they would probably try to defend the bad guys if the good guy shot the bad guys especially in more liberal heavy states where they probably treat gun owners like criminals damn near. it's almost like if you shoot someone defending yourself there is a decent chance someone will try to screw you over given the backwards thinking of some people out there.

The big drawback with gun-owning - you're 34 times more likely to lose a family member to an accidental, suicidal or homicidal shooting incident than kill a criminal in self defense. -

I know many gun owners, no one ever lost a family member by accident or homicide. I know two guys that hung themselves, but no one that shot themselves. If you're gonna kill yourself, you don't need a gun.
Those stats (which I doubt are real) are relative to the level of responsibility and training of the gun owners. Just be responsible.
But situations like in this movie, unfortunately happen all the time, and then you would 100% wish you had a gun if you didn't because that would be your only hope of surviving. -

In Russia all drivers carry a crowbar or bat under their seat, there are tons of videos online with various traffic incidents, where people stop their cars and each comes out with a bat, hammer, axe, sword, etc.

Without a gun, there was literally nothing that he could have done in that situation. 3 guys, all stronger than him and more experienced in violence, he would have gotten killed in front of his family. 100%.
This was a very realistic movie. In real life, you're only taking out 3 guys if you're trained, and they're inexperienced. But in his case he would have certainly been killed, and his family's death would go unavenged.
Too bad he didn't have a gun. -

The 3 bad-guys were just normal sized guys. And the leader was standing right in front of the good-guy (Tony/Edward) with his hands down. Tony did right to act scared to get the other guy's guard down.but then he should have hauled-off and sucker-punched him. He could have knocked him out. Then there's only 2 bad-guys left. Tony fights 1.and the 2 girls fight the other guy, hoping to delay him for a minute, and hoping that Tony can win his fight quickly. The odds are still against them, but there's at least a chance.

To actually answer the TCs question, when getting out and to open the trunk to get out the spare for them, I would have wielded that tire iron like King Arthur wielded the Excalibur and dented fool who tried to get near me or the fam. Or those Mom and Daughter should have grabbed some stones to throw when they out of the car and off the road. Maybe they wouldn't stand a chance against them but it's better to go down fighting than the alternative.
Better yet, I would not have honked or tried to pass in the first place. If someone is obviously being antagonistic on the road, especially in the middle of nowhere, it 's better to just ignore them and keep your distance because they are obviously someone who has lost a few marbles. -

. Sure, maybe I would have been killed but atleast died trying. I mean he was literally behind the guy several times whilst the other 2 were working on the car, do you know how fast you can make someone loose consciousness by choking? You'd be amazed, its not like in the movies when they struggle for 20 second and they still have power left to fight. after 2 seconds your gonna be like a goddamn noodle. I would also try to twist his neck so hard I could in any way to badly hurt him to make the fight 1v2. As for the other 2 guys I would kick, bite, rip their eyes out, Anything if necessary.
Another option would be to kick him so hard you could in the balls from behind. Imagine channeling all you strenght into a massive well aimed kick.
Is it just me that get so frustrating wacthing scenes like this when the guy does nothing?? He doesnt even try. Imagine just biting someone in the throat or like fingers as hard as you can i mean to the point that your teeth will break. -

I also feel this way, but the thing is its easy to talk about doing anything and while I hope that I would be able to do anything, I think if I did end up in a situation like that (heaven forbid) I would probably end up being the same way Tony was.
