    A ha! So it's a Southeast Asian thing. Well they do it here in Indonesia too.
    I like it, it makes whatever ice cream you eat taste like an ice cream cake.

      Yup. On the recent Kit Kat thread, I commented that the blandness of white bread counters the sweetness of ice cream which works well for me. I don't eat a lot of ice cream but next time I'm at a get-together, I'm going to make an ice cream sandwich just to see the reaction!

              No. Toasting the bread would make the two textures clash.
              Edit: In light of greekgirl's link below and how delicious some of those toasted ice cream sandwiches look, I retract my statement.

                Now that seems right up my alley. I've had waffles and ice cream, why not toast and ice cream? Oooh, cinnamon raisin or applesauce toast with vanilla bean You may be on to something here, nutsberry.

                  They serve gelato on brioche in Italy, and you can get it that way at our local gelato shop (gelateria?). Yum!

                      Haven't tried that but have done with Eggos, toasted crisp, yum.
