Do narcissists know that they are narcissists?

Sadly, once others get to know this narcissist, the admiration fades, and the dislike is inevitable.

I think age most definitely factors into it, life changes us. There is also a train of thought that says very beautiful people don't need to try so hard to develop a personality.
Although in the case of my ex friend she seemed worse than ever! She said she had embraced Facebook with a passion, she loved all the likes, she documented every move she made.
Looking back I wish I'd been less self-absorbed as a youngster.

Excuse me for butting in, but think I understand. I think that everyone can relate when it comes to our early teens and the way things were in middle school.
That is the age when we are most aware of ourselves. We want to become independent of our parents, and yet, we want to fit in with our peers. We follow the leaders, so we really aren't all that independent after all.
We are really just trying to figure ourselves out at that age, so we are naturally self centered.
The only people we did listen to were the kids we hung out with, and they were in the same boat as you… trying to figure themselves out.
You are normal in that respect.
Cold comfort at that age.
I would never want to go back to that time in life.

No. Although, as my world has shrunk, due to this pandemic, I do tend to think more about myself. Just worry.
I can honestly say that I worry more about the ones I love, more than myself, so in that respect, I need not worry that I am a narcissist.
On the other hand, I find myself discussing myself a great deal in this very post.
Should I be worried???

No not at all.
I mean if there was ever a time to consider ourselves, our nearest and dearest and their safety it is now.
It's fascinating and it was reading your conversation with Miley earlier that made me wonder about this. She said that she knew she was a narcissist but it felt like she was saying it exonerated her from having to do the hard work of making conversation and taking an interest in others and that it was our fault somehow
the nature of the beast I suppose.

So true.
I had the feeling that what she said about narcissism had something to do with this thread. I see that you did some research on the subject too.
This little site isn't all bad. The things people say here, can be thought provoking. It can also be a reminder that we aren't always alone in our thoughts, which is a good thing… in some cases.

Oh wow, Dazed. Are you going to be dressing up as Harley Quinn for Halloween as well? And will you be the Dr. Harley Quinn as crazy psychiatrist or her alter the even crazier version of herself?

Some do. Back when I was 17, I was sleeping with this girl who was literally bragging about being narcissistic.
She was constantly saying that she was incredibly narcissistic.
And then I knew some narcissistic assholes who had no self-awareness whatsoever.

Can they be considered assholes if they don't understand what their behaviour is?
And another question, with regard to your girl, did she display narcissistic behaviour as well as telling you she was a narcissist?
